How long to fix ?

Start to finish. How long has it taken people to remove the diff and reinstall after the plate swap?

took me 5 days with 2 people (1-3hrs a day after work). This time includes the plate swapping.

or pay $450 to TRE and he'll do the 12 plate, shot peen, and a ton of other stuff.. + no shop should charge more than 250 to unbolt and then put the diff back on, shipping is $50 one way..

I don't see how it's not ridiculous for a shop just to swap the stock plates to manufacturer spec, and not even do the 12 plate

PS, aside from that, how is Rush Group Detailing? Their website looks very good, been looking for a good detailer. Got some exterior work I need to have done..

Be wary though if you're one of the unfortunate few *cough, cough...me* where the ring and pinion are somehow damaged--it will obviously drive the price up.

yeah but that's a separate issue...

in either case if the ring and pinion are damaged they will need to be fixed, and jon@tre would probably fix it for cheaper than a dealership or local mechanic shop or w/e...

That's not TRE's fault though. All Jon did was opened up your diff, saw an issue, informed you that you need this and that, and he charges it on your bill + $450.

It took around 2 hours to remove my diff, 1-2 hours to take it apart, 2-3 hours to put it back together and 3-4 hours to put it back in. If you start early in the morning, you can finish this in one day. Of course, it might take longer if this is your first time removing the diff (this was my 2nd time).

I should have been more clear. What I meant is that it isn't ridiculous on the shop's end. It is going to take them a long time and their time costs money. I totally agree with you that there are much more cost effective options like TRE. I don't mean to be argumentative, the point I was making was directed more so at that being a realistic dealership price if you wanted them to rebuild your differential. Since Jon is much more efficient and since he gets the diff already out of the car, his price is quite a bit cheaper.

As for Rush Group; https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/5258368-post1.html I think that speaks for itself

Wasn't pointing fingers...just letting everyone know that it's not always cut and dry. Shep did the work on my diff BTW.

It is a different issue from the plates and not one that is always encountered. Still scratching my head at how it happened
