A metal grinding sound came out of nowhere so pulled my Exedy Triple Disc last week and found this. Less than 5k miles on it, most of it easy break in miles from 2 motor break ins so it was only really used hard for 1k miles which was all high ways pulls. ZERO launching or hard shifting. Bought brand new 2-3 years ago. Looks like the clutches are still crap. Hesitant to rebuild after reading this thread. Gonna contact Exedy
I'll say it again, these are race car parts, not street car parts. Cruising around on the street with minimal load is what causes this. Those parts just sit there and bounce back and forth on each other, causing this type wear.

Sorry this happened to you man. I have owned both the twin and triple exedy clutches and the triple is actually a clutch that you buy on a "No Choice" basis only. It handles so much power and launches all day, but it's not one of those parts that you buy because you want headroom for modding later. I've made that mistake with my injectors. It's a part you buy because nothing else will do that job and on the street, the clutch disks will bounce back and forth on the hub as the engine lopes or revs up and down. It really is a track only clutch for cars making 900+ft lbs of torque. Stay away from it and go for the sprung twin disk if you still want an exedy.

You can cruise around on the street all day long and this should not happen. My friend has a exedy triple with over 20k miles, still working fine. A couple years ago they had a bad batch of heat treated hubs. I know this because I checked the Rockwell on the failed hub and on the new replacement hub, it wasn’t even close. It was a manufacturing defect that should have been covered period the end.

Do you know if Exedy ever did anything warranty wise for the buyers with the defective hubs?
