I recently installed a koyo half rad in my car. I have an ETS twin scroll kit and space is tight to say the least. I was not able to fit my flex-a-lite fan on the back so I had to buy a mishimoto 10" fan for the front that also just barely fit. Driving around a few times on cool evenings everything seemed ok and temps never went past half. The other day I was doing some tuning with Tom of Tscomp and let the car idle for atleast 15 minutes. When I looked up I realized the temp gauge was almost full! I drove off to cool the car down. When I put my hand on the back of the rad it feels like the Mishimoto fan is barely pushing any air... Im also running water wetter. Would a name brand fan help my issue? Im super limited for space. Any ideas?

I had to route my dumptubes through the hood vent in order to fit my SPAL/FAL fan. I would go back to a pull not a push. The push isn't gonna help your cooling situation.

+1, If at all possible get the pull with a shroud. If the shround won't fit then do the best you can to get a slim fan to fit in a pull set up. I tried with both push and pull and I think the push is just blocking the air flow.

I've done some tuning with quite a few 1/2 radiators, including mine, and it's the idle tuning that get's it pretty hot.

I'm going back to a full size radiator. Can't you fit a full size with ETS's kit? It shows a full size on their website, but it looks like a single wastegate.

sounds like more then anything you need to figure out where your space went... how do you not have space for a fan on a half rad setup? is your rad in front of your turbo by chance?

I think the pusher will just block the airflow. With a good puller you "should" be ok... But there have been different results in idle and in stop and go traffic.

Having a push may help in stop and go traffic where there is not too much airflow but it will overheat on the highway where the fan typically isn;t working hard (Or at all) because the natural motion of the car moving is more then adequate. A fan in front will block this airflow.

It won't work.

Strangely enough I had my AC on (on the highway) the other night and it did not overheat. I think it mid 70's to be fair but I've had it overheat on 80 degree weather on the highway, This is such a weird problem to have.

i use a modified oem rad fan and it works great... most the fans you will buy online are 800cfm at most... and don't have a shroud. this is very very far from enough airflow. the oem fan is a bit bulky but it flows extremely well... and it has the oem controller to allow it to switch at the various temps normally... in my opinion there isn't a better option. and i have logged normal temps at idle in my garage for 30 minutes. several miles of daily traffic.. and highway... my temps on the highway are the only issues i have at 180. lol

The fan my Mishimoto setup came with comes shrouded. I can't remember what the fan is off of the top of my head. I took the connector off of my stock fan and spliced it onto the new fan. I'm pretty happy with it and its a less bulky fan then the stock one.

It seems that so far there hasnt been a "formula" established to work all around for this mod (weather conditions and driving conditions).

Has anyone tried the 3row mishimoto rad? Ive seen people mentioning they are using a mishimoto halfcore but just remembered about the 3row... Maybe that'd be the one + fan shroud + oem or mishi or known good fan brand? Maybe....

I'll be trying a "better" radiator in a few months.

Back from the dead thread because I'm looking to run a mishimoto Honda small radiator in my Evo since I'm going FF but I'm wondering how you modified your OEM fan to mount it? Or if anyone else on here is using the OEM fan on your half radiator and can let me know how you bolted it up, that would be great.
