Also made it to the drag strip this past weekend, only got 2 passes in but my first pass was 12.12 at 120 mph and my second an 11.4 at 122mph. My personal best to date. Car did great with launching. Launch limit was set at 5800, and riding out 4th to 8400-8500rpm to finish the 1320. Drove it to and from the track with out issue. No grinds or anything. I plan on running a lot more this year and hopefully getting close to a 10 second pass on E85.

Im now hoping my trans last until late next year before i get a rebuild. everything seems fine but we'll see how it goes with all the racing this year. Motul 300 75w90 FTW Link below for Race video

Nice pass EvoIX89. Is that a stock 6 speed how much torque are you putting down. I got a Evo 9 MR with a black turbo plan on draging it this year. I'm interested to see just how much these 6 speeds can realy handle

I'm actually not sure how much torque. My dyno sheet only shows HP and i wasn't there for the dyno session. but my FP red setup that i ran for 17-18k miles was making 440wtq on a mustang dyno. I've been pretty spirited with my driving since i put this used 6 speed in my car. now the trans how about 70k miles on it. Had a 4th gear grind at one point but the Motul 300 75w90 has seemed to fix it. you'll do good drag racing it, just change the fluid every few oil changes, and ride 4th out in the 1/4 mile. gotta rev to 8500 or so in 4th

440 wtq that poor little 6 speed. Really I think the 6 speed can handle more than what people say. But I'm keeping my torque down to 400 for the sake of my block. At the end of the year I plan on a 2.3 build them I'm going to drop the hammer on it and see how long it lasts.

Thanks for the advice I naturally would have gone for 5th

Good to see people talking about the 6 speed still, I love the 6 speed, and can't wait till my build is finish so I can drive my Evo again.

I've been changing trans fluid once a year for both the mini and the evo - have actually been surprised the first few times how much shavings came out of the Mini (~20k miles). Neither car is driven much but the Mini is autoxed nearly every weekend from March to Nov. Evo's got about 28k miles on it now - for anyone interested, Jon@TRE does build these transmissions - had him shot peen the gears, etc. Probably overkill considering ~300whp lol, but everything else was out of the car so why not. I have switched to Red Line 75w85 for the Evo, and I am actually going to run it in the Mini as well.

well, i gave that brad penn GL4 80w90 a try…… And it sucked. felt like Pennzoil Synchromesh. notchy and trans didn't like it. Switch back after 50 miles to Motul Gear 300. Also since the last time i posted I've put about 5-6k miles on this Motul fluid and decided to change it. And also have about 13 drag passes since then too. Trans is still doing good. Motul still seems to be the ticket!

My latest time^^^ still on pump gas and low boost. Cant be good for the trans but damn it runs good!

Going to compete at the shoot out next week for the 11.50 index.

I recently put the ACDELCO GL4 and I can say I didn't notice to much difference from the diaqueen. I was hoping it would help out my high rpm lock out, but it didn't help at all.

High RPM lock out? what clutch are you using? i had lock out with an ACT HDSS single disc clutch but when i switch to a Exedy Twin, it shifts perfect at 8500 rpm with the 6 speed.

yea i would lean more towards your clutch if your having a high rpm lock out issue first. I have an ACT clutch in my car now giving me issues and can't wait to replace it.

I have an exedy oem replacement clutch. I've heard they could be the culprit but a twin isn't in the budget

Best budget clutch that's holds awesome power and doesn't have lock out is the Competition Clutch stage 2, un-sprung. English racing lives and breaths the stage 2 for Evos. It's $524 from them. There's a huge thread on it from English if you search

They're an inexpensive clutch and shift well initially but if you read around, you'll find that their lifetime is not very long.

you dont even need that much horse in an evo anyways. just work on your suspension setup you will be flying in the twisties or the track. more horse in a 4cyl is prone to more problem. thats why many high end cars kept their hp around 300-500 hp and thats with more cyl, and bigger displacement. plus the evo wasnt made for the drag racing. if you are then might as well take out the acd and wield your diff together.
