I suspected an issue with my muffler (thinking the valve is stuck), so I removed the muffler to see if I regained some power. (yes I know, muffler delete is dangerous) I seemed to have gained a good amount of power which confirms my suspicions about the muffler but I have also discovered with the muffler gone the turbo is as loud as a shop vac on high at about 4500. Any one else seen this?

the flapper inside the muffler. I noticed a couple dents in the muffler right in that area and one exhaust tip is always dirty and the other one is always clean.

 

Might want to have this moved to the 10 forums, this is under the 1-9. Lol we with 8-9 only have one muffler. But yes if the muffler is dented it is a possibility the valve is not opening.

 

To answer your initial question: Yes, with the muffler removed the turbo will be significantly louder. This is common. You will probably here the turbo whining at idle as well with the muffler removed (you will hear the turbine whining through the exhaust).
