General Concerns

Ok, well, it's been about 6K miles since I picked up my evo back in May and I was just wondering if any of you guys are having the same things as I do. It's not really problems, but I'm still wondering about them.
First thing that I noticed a long time ago was the insensitivity of the brake lights. It comes on AFTER I depressed the brake pedal a certain amount. I'm not sure if that's normal on an evo, but it gets me into a lotta trouble with tailgaters. It's not so bad now, because I think that my brake's are worn out a little bit.
And while we're on the topic of brakes, does anyone have a slight squeaking problem on SLOW stops. I usually hear it when I'm trying to reverse out of a parking space, and then brake to slow, it sqeaks for about 2 seconds. Maybe I need new pads? At 6K? I have no problem with faster stops.
Next was the squeakiness of the seat. Sometimes I'm driving and my seat starts squeaking a little bit. Especially when I clutch it, it sounds like plastic on metal, or plastic on plastic. Just a kind of sound u get on squeaky chairs and u try to lean back on them.
Um, also, driver door handle. It doesn't seem to be as easy to open the door as the other ones anymore. I know the passenger seat door is easy to open. All I have to do is give it a nudge and it pops open, but now for my driver's door, I have to give it a pretty good pull to open it. Any ideas?
Grinding in 2nd and 5th gear. I've had problems with grinding in 2nd gear. I haven't had too much problems with the high rev 5th gear grind, because I've only tried that once (and it did grind). So do you think I should get my 5th gear replaced? What about 2nd gear? Do they have anything on that? Maybe warranty?
Thanks guys, that's all that I have so far.

I havent noticed most of the items you have there but I have had the rear brakes squeek when backing up but usually only when they are wet. I'm not sure what causes it for certain but I think the brake is just slipping, although it does create one hell of a squeek.

The brake squeal at low speeds is normal. As for the rest of the stuff, I'd let the dealer take care of them for you.

actually that brake problem could be due to the brake rotors being overglazed, since you have such few milage, it would behoove you to get it fixed under the 12k warranty period

I've noticed that too. I think it's normal. I actually like it since you can lightly brush the brakes to dry them afetr a puddle or something and not freak out the guy behind you.

That's also totally normal. Most brakes will squeal a little if you press them very gently.

I've noticed the door handles on my Evo are very "mushy" if you know what I mean. They don't have a very positive feel and they sort of sink back in place rather than snap back (like all other cars I've owned). This seems worse now that it's cold. I chalk it up to cheap parts.

That doesn't sound good. What exactly do you mean by grinding? Is it like that horrible sound you would get if you screw up a shift? That could point to worn/weak synchros. Tell us more about it and we may be able to help you make the diagnosis.

Yeah, its that nice horrible sound that u get when u try to shift without ur clutch. Except.. I AM using my clutch, so yeah. The first time I've noticed it was when I try to shift into 2nd gear way too fast and release the clutch early and that, of course, grinds, but now, it does that sometimes when I shift nice and perfect. It just grinds for no reason. Plus there's the 5th gear grind problem at RPMs higher than 5K.

Come to think of it, it kinda sounds like those lawn mower things that they use to cut the grass on the sidewalks. It's the metal spinning ones, not the orange spinning strings. Its the huge metal grinder looking thing. It sounds like those when it hits cement. Like. GRRRARRRRRRRRRRRRRR or like CCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKCCCHHHHHHHHH. I don't know if that stimulates any of you guys' imagination, but I can't get it out in words, it just grinds.

Read the owners manual...most of the things you talk about are covered in there. The transmission in this car will be recalcitrant until fully warmed up....

yeah the brake lights do have a delay when u depress it. just brake later...i haven't checked yet, but i think there could be a way to setup the sensor behind the brake pedal so it engages earlier.
