New times with BR clutchless 4 speed
Cannot wait for this to get done! I am trying to save up some cash to make this happen. This transmission is going to be a game changer. This trans will help many people go a bunch faster. My car makes good power, but I am a baaaaad driver. Hopefully I can drop at least a second off my 1/4 mile times. Emery is a perfect driver, he runs crazy fast making the same power as I do. Why? I cannot shift fast, reliable or at the right time. This should make me consistent, and fast!
Mason look at the people you are arguing with and realize their cumulative knowledge is world's beyond yours and just give up. Do what you want but you are not convincing anyone with an IQ above 80 that you are right. What you aspire to they have done and still want this.
actually I dont think thats right. I dont think he is making transmissions . At least no gears anyway. Thats why he is being so secrative. He doesnt want people top know what vehicle the trans comes in. Cause then of course they wouldnt have to buy one from Dave if they can find one themselves. I think what he is doing was already stated earlier in one of the other threads. The evo tcase doesnt directly bolt up so they had to either modify the tcase or recast the bell housing/or tcase housing so it does directly bolt up. Plus of course all the mounts are different geometry as well. Adding up everything in my head is he prolly making 50% profit on each trans which he so deserves for taking this project on.
Here are some things to consider for those of you thinking I am getting rich on ANYTHING we sell, this is what this kit is going to include.
First is the impossible to find, not cheap to buy and robbery to ship here from overseas, the used transmission we start with. I can tell you I haven't been able to source one yet for UNDER $2200 used.
Complete B&M shifter, go price it as Summit, shifter and cover will cost you about $325. We then powder coat it, supply a bolt in base for it, built the custom mount to bolt it to the trans and the new shift arm required. Then we supply a brand new counsole top and ashtray so it all fits and looks good.
New 1/2 width radiator with built in trans cooler, those are $515.
B&M trans cooler and lines, go price that stuff in AN and the same big cooler we are using, you'll end up about $300 in all the stuff.
All new clutches, steels, gaskets, o-rings and some other confidential parts we are putting into the transmissions, along with hot tanking, acid cleaning etc.
Then I have to pay an actual professional to take the trans apart and rebuild them so they will hold up.
Torque converter has to be sent out and built.
Rear billet engine mount we had to engineer and have built.
Clutch pedal delete plate so you don't have a 5" round hole in your firewall.
Complete new billet/urethane driver side engine mount, again had to engineer it and have them built.
Front engine mount.
Disassembly and machining of the stock t-case so you guys can use it rather than buy a new one.
Machining of 4 other components to make it work, material is so hard it has to be machined/ground on a crank grinder.
Flexplate that is SFI approved.
New crank bolts, new flex plate bolts.
Electronic control box, not old Radio Shack crap this time. We are having the circuit boards actually built for the project instead of using some generic crap. This has also allowed us to upgrade all the wiring and diodes so they are actually reliable.
Electrical connectors for the trans, not easy to source I had to buy wiring harnesses to steal what we needed off them to build the control box.
So go ahead and add all that up and do your calculations...........you'll find if you just take some time that I only WISH I could make 50% and Jerry you are right, I damn sure deserve to be making that much on this.
oh i forgot labor and consumables don't apply to a full conversion?clutch kit $4000?how about $1500 for a QM.full auto conversion will be a little labor intensive as well.i think at this point most of us are doing all/most of the labor ourselves anyway.
i've seen several air shifted dog boxes and they look awfully consistent to me.i think it's a little early for you to claim the DB auto is more consistent and reliable than an air shifted dog box.
have you driven one yet?has anyone?

Hopefully this Friday we can finally get through a night of racing with this trans to show more promise. So far we have gone faster each time but obviously breaking twice now from flexplate issues has not allowed it to be reliable or consistent. I hope to see some good stuff at Norwalk this coming Friday night. All I can do is hope though, this project is far from done.
Kiggly has my flexplate done, it will be here tomorrow morning. Said it was super difficult to build, the clearances are extremely tight and has been why we've had issues. We will have the car together as soon as the parts arrive.
We got the parts back in from Kiggly today, there's not much room to play with, it's very close still. Hopefully we have the clearance we need this time.
The trans is in, waiting on new flexplate bolts to arrive tomorrow and then maybe 30 minutes to finish up the install and the car is ready.
Friday night at Norwalk, if you want to watch, come on out.

There has to XX amount of clearance between the flexplate and the pads on the torque converter before you tighten the two together. Think of it kind of like thrust bearing clearance on a crank but that distance is eliminated once the two are torqued together.
Reason this stopped racing was the owner got in big trouble for non-racing related things. The car WAS about to undergo upgrades to step things up, it had been running on 8" slicks and not at its power potential up to that point - so yeah, technically it isn't currently racing fast and consistent right now but it was and could easily enough be again.
