burning oil?

hey everyone i tried looking up to see if evos burn oil and some people say alittle is normal and some say if theres any consumption theres a problem. today i did an oil change and i put in about 4 and a half quarts of oil maybe alittle more of 10w-30 mobil 1 synthetic oil and i changed the mobil 1 filter (like i usually do) and when i put the old oil back in the container i only had alittle more then then 3 quarts. i maybe beat on my car once or twice in between oil changes and i change my oil every 3000 miles. this time was actually 3300. my evo isnt stock i have 272 cams, 1200cc injectors, evo 9 turbo, wilbro fuel pump, ported exhaust mani, hks intake, o2 dump, no cat, 3" exhaust, and more but those are the only things i think could maybe effect the oil consumption.

but my question is,
is this ok? or do i have a problem?
my oil is straight black when i take it out is that normal?

if its running very rich it could wash the bores causing oil consumption

It's perfectly normal on turbo cars BUT I would still get a compression/leak-down test. Had mine done and although my compression was 150-155psi across the board and no more than 4% on the leak-down results, I had lifted my head a tad bit. This was due to running stock head studs for 30k miles on Kelford 272s. My evo has 84k miles on her too!

You didn't lift the head because of having Kelford 272s. You lifted the head because of detonation.

^ Correct. I am simply telling the OP to do some tests to rule out other issues with his vehicle. It can be other things such as leaky valve stem seals as well.

Gotcha, I was thinking you were claiming they were the reason

I have apr head studs as well I had them put in when I did the cams I'm sorry I didn't mention it before I didn't think it was important. I'll try to have some tests done soon I have to see when I can get that done but in the mean time does it sound normal to lose that much and to have the oil a solid black color? I was talking to my neighbor and he was saying his trucks oil isn't that bad when he changes his oil so it's got me a little worried and I'm running slightly rich nothing to crazy according to my wideband

Just check the oil every time you fill you your car "gas or E85." and add oil till its full. I would worry about it unless it is burning a qt. every 500 miles or blowing out of the exhaust or something 24/7

Well if it wasn't for me changing the oil I wouldn't know, no smell, no weird noise or anything
