Thoughts on what clutch to get?????
I currently have a evo 8 with all Bolt ons and a conservative tune. I need a new clutch and flywheel and am wondering what to get stage 2, 2HD or stage 3. I want it to last awhile or the wife will kill me lol. I drive spirited here n there and maybe launch here n there but not that much at all. I'm asking bc I'm gonna be upgrading to kelford 272 cams, with springs n retainers, bigger injectors, walbro pump and getting speed density tuned for the cams as well as for pump 93 and E85. More mods in the future with bigger turbo, internals Ect.
Really depends on timeframe of your future mods as to what I would suggest. I have friends that move from your setup to fully built in a year. And then I have had my evo for two years and am still on stock turbo but still have plans to build a spare motor for it in the near future. Also need to take into account if this is a track car or daily driver.
I say this because if it's for the track and a serious build is coming then I say go with a heavy duty twin disc setup from Exedy. But that is not a clutch you want for a daily driver as the pedal pressure will be very stiff and loud chatter.
Myself, my evo is my daily driver and that's not changing so I went single disc. I have an ACT XTSS clutch. My buddy had one and praised it so I went with it. I couldn't be happier. It's the perfect street clutch in my opinion. The pedal pressure is slightly more than stock but when you need it to grab, it grabs. It's rated to 540/tq at the flywheel which is plenty for my setup. I have another friend currently running it and he loves it as well. He is an avid autocrosser as well and it has been holding strong for over 20k miles in both our cars.

I have an Exedy Twin and I love it. It's not my daily driver anymore but I do drive it a lot. Mine doesn't make that much noise really. Just a little bit sometimes when taking off and sometimes it will bark during downshifts. It's not that loud though. Then again it was in it when I bought it so I can't say how it is compared to a stock clutch or anything else.
I also had it rebuilt and it seemed to make the most noise when it was freshly rebuilt. I've put some mileage on it now and it doesn't make noises nearly as much.
I think each one is different though. My buddies Exedy Triple Disc is about the most annoying thing in the world when he pushes the clutch pedal in. He doesn't complain about it's driveability though. Just the noise.
I would suggest an Exedy Twin but I also have nothing to compare it to. But I am pleased with mine and the only reason I would replace it would be to get an Exedy Triple if I needed it for more power.

Ok. Mine is my daily driver. My cams with injectors, pump n dual map tune will be this month. On phone tuner at MR Performance said like 400 on e85 n like 350 on pump 93. Which is good for me now. Bigger mods like internals n turbo will be down he road not in future. So I was thinking stage 2hd or stage 3 for now. Not a track car either. I'll look into the act xtss
All racing kits would have a significantly stiffer clutch pedal spring (clutch cover) than OEM.
Any single metal plated clutch won't be comfortable for daily driving.
You can't go wrong with the Exedy twin plate, I think it's the best kit on the market, but it's kind of expensive @ $1600-1700.
I suggest you buy the Exedy stage 1 organic clutch kit, it's suited for dd & good enough for around 380hp.

Competition 5152-2100 with a resurfaced OEM flywheel. I have been running it for over a year now and still extremely pleased with it. I have been fairly hard on the clutch other than launching it.
The Exedy Triple seems to behave differently on every car. I myself run the Triple and don't have too much noise but my friend's car with the same clutch is very noisy. It drives the same and engages the same though it is only noisier when the clutch is depressed.
I did however switch from an Exedy Twin to an Exedy Triple but will have to say that the triple drives and engages much smoother and easier than the twin.
