Weird noise....Drivetrain?
So now you're looking at anything that moves (most likely rotates) from the transfer case to the wheels. A lot of people will say the transfer case is the culprit, which is entirely possible but I personally would like to have some evidence to support it other than it being the weak link in the evo drivetrain.
The fact that it changes when you let off the throttle means that it is something that is affected by load from the engine. So probably not wheel bearings or tires.
Get it up on a lift and have a listen while the wheels are spinning. Once you know exactly where the noise is coming from you'll start making leaps and bounds towards a solution.
listening to what you have going on sounds like your transfer. I haven't had to deal with this problem thank god but some friends of mine have before and it was just like what your experiencing. There is a possiblity ur transfer isn't the problem but it's definately a very high chance it is.
