Help! Removing control shaft on transmission.

Today I started to install aluminum underhood shift cable bushings, on the bigger of the two bushings the metal inner bushing won't come off the control shaft on the 5spd trans. Should I try to heat it on the car to pull the bushing off or should I pull the control shaft asdembly off the trans and work on it outside the car?

This is on a evo 9
The control shaft assembly is pictured on page 7 of my link as parts 13 and 14.

Use some PB Blaster or WD 40 and lube the bushing. Then use a flathead and pliers to pry them out. Worst case is remove the linkage assembly but it shouldnt be necessary. You do not want to torch the area as there is fuel lines just above the assembly. How many miles do you have? I did these at 20k on my old 8, and it was easy as pie.

Ive tried the above method 100k miles, the other one practicly fell off. Im just wondering if the shaft will come off and go back on easily.

Well, if you want to pull it, I had mine out during a clutch replacement - I didn't want the levers hitting the fender. Anyway here's what I wrote about what I did in another post. This is for the five speed. I didn't have any problems doing this. YMMV.
