Rebuild 2.3L - Guide Needed

Hi Guys,
im rebuilding my Evo 5 2.0L engine after 4 years of hard driving and i hope the Forumers here could guide and advise me throughout my rebuild progress.

1 : Do i need to change new Valves if i changed to new Valve Guide?

2 : I'll be using used 4G64 Crank and is it necessary to perform Crankshaft Balancing as i see some of my friends have done their crank balancing but it seem the crank came back just as same as before.
I'll be using back my BC I-Beam rods matching with new Wiseco 2.3 pistons

3 : Is there a way to tell on whether my Lifters in in good condition? I bought it brand new (GSC brand) but during the time after changed, my tappets some still very obvious during cold start.

4 : What do you Guys think of Precision Injectors?

5 : Should i use back my GSC S2 cams or stock cams? As my S2 cams seem caused the car to be very lack on my 2.0L engine.
Lastly, should i dial the S2 cams as per GSC Spec's or should i advance the intake cam for better Response?

Will continue to seek for advise and help.

Thanks Guys

This should help you out. As far as I remember this is a 2.3 build. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/pr...g-my-viii.html

You can go to https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/pr...d-threads-344/ and look for a nice build to follow or use as a guide.

why should you downgrade to stock cams ? especially on 2.3 that needs to breathe

***
and what are the GSC's specs to dial S2's ? just asking

Hi Stunt, im worry of similar problem like my past where whenever i immediate full throttle, my car seem hard to accelerate until ive to immediate lift off and re-throttle again.

I duno is it due to the cams/tune/turbo or mechanical problem.

1. You can use the same valves with new valve guides and have no issues. Will need new valve seals though. Usually the guides do not need replacing unless one is cracked.
2. I never had a crank balanced for a motor but can definitely not hurt to do so. Not a necessity though.
3. I've personally always used stock lifters. You can usually tell if a lifter is bad by pressing on it.
Make sure you bleed them well.
4. I am partial to FIC injectors.
5. Use the S2 cams. Great cams. Went from those to kelford 280s and now on S3. The 4g63 motor has always seemed to only benefit from a larger cam.
The cams do not need degreeing. They are pretty spot on from the manufacturer. You could always test and see what helps and makes you happy, power and response wise, if you have the time to do so.

I would balance the rotating assembly. Most machine shops will check the weight on rods and pistons, make sure they are within 1 gram. The shop I use installs dowel pins for flywheels/cranks (flywheel to crank) that don't use them, and they balance the crank, flywheel, and pressure plate together.
