I just had a new 2.4LR built and installed. Engine has about 700 miles on it. When I first got the car back from the shop, it has this very light ringing noise at idle - like a bell ringing. Thought maybe it was the PS pump or something like that.

It's gotten progressively louder as I have driven my car. The engine is a (4G64) 2.4L LR with Manley Billet Crank, JE Pistons, Manley Turbo Tuff iBeams, ACL Race Bearings, etc..

I thought maybe it was the water pump or something like that, so I removed the accessory belt to eliminate any rotation from the Alternator, Water Pump, PS Pump, or AC compressor.. Sound is still there at idle. I've determined it's not the clutch - sounds the same in or out. Something in the engine. Below is a video so you can hear it.. What do you guys think this sound is? What should I look at? I am not driving the car till I figure out that the heck this is.

I found the issue... Crank sensor tooth wheel was rubbing on the Crank Position Sensor. Slightly bent it back flat and sound is gone.

 

you should probably replace it since it was hitting. You may find problems down the road.
