Engine noise after fresh rebuild

Just built a 2.4 and put it in. 2003 evo 8. Sounds just like power steering noise or water pump noise, but i still dont know what it was.

The water pumps are noisy in these cars. I can hear it come and go as the thermostat opens and closes. Not loud but it is there.

do what i suggested and you cut the problem space in half. If the noise goes away then you know its an accessory, if it does not you know its coming from the engine.

Will do. Its possible it could be a bearing or something from one of the accessories.

Took the serp belt off, still making the noise. I think it may be the belt cover rubbing on the belt.

yah i would pull the plastic covers off the timing belt and inspect, could be a bad pulley or something and you don't want to let that go.
