But for the benefit of others, could you give us a little more detail as to where this restrictor is and how it looks like? Maybe a pic? Thanks for you help!

Ditto on that one. I'd like to try this out.

i wish i could post pics but i am at work right know. but i sent pm's out. but if you remove the airbox you will see the solenoid the hose going to the intake boot does not have the restrictor. the hose (lower one) is the hose with the restricter it will be a inch or two from the solenoid and you will beable to feel it. hope this helps

That's odd because I thought it was a 10mm, so I grabbed the 10mm socket, but it didn't fit. I tried the 11m and it fit perfect.

I am thinking, perhaps, when you changed out the BOV, you also corrected the problem...

Did you have a boost guage after you did the tightening of the stock BOV clamps and verify that it was still tapering?

The big problem is that we all don't have a boost gauge to verify if this simple tightening of the screws would rectify the boost taper issue but it does makes sense...

Brent

Ok, I just did that fix today. Strange, cuz I kept tightening the screw, but it wouldn't tighten all the way. I probably turned it 3/4 of a full turn. I didn't even have to remove the airbox. All I did was unclip the 4 clips that held the airbox down and bent the cover up just enough to fit the ratchet under it.

I did some blasting on the hwy and it still dropped in boost (1.24->1.18 kpa (whatever the unit is on the Blitz DCC)), just not as fast. It felt the same as before, but it was rather hot outside. I'll blast it around at night sometime, since I'm better acquainted with the car at night.

Thumbs up

I just snapped this pic. Does the arrow indicate were the restrictor is? Do you replace the T-fitting?

If not, then were?

Hey fellas, I am back. I did that solenoid trick on my old 90 eclipse gs turbo and it worked like a charm also. I also wanted to point out that I loosened the clamp today then shoved the plastic and rubber pieces closer together (there was a small gap) so the hose was on tight then retightened. It does not seem to help anymore than simply tightening the clamp, but it gives me piece of mind that it is snug . I am glad I made a useful post and some are getting favorable results. Remember, each of our cars has different built tollerances, maybe mine was built by a drunk in Japan, but I fixed a simple loose hose and all is good now. I hope to hear others successes (or possibly not).

I did a search and found this out.

mitsupwr,
Thanks. That's were I thought it was, but just wanted to make sure.

So I just removed the tiny clamp and the hose and the restrictor should be inside?

I'm trying to do this before I go to the track this evening.

I just did the mod about 15 minutes ago.

I've attached a pic of the restrictor next to a standard sized thumb tack for comparison purposes.

It's real easy to do. The hose you want it the one on the BCS closest to the BCS plug.

You don't need any pliers. I just squeezed the clamp and moved it back out of the way. Pull on the hose firm, but gently as to not tear it. Mine came out with ease.

I used a pick to pry it out. Make sure to hold the area just behind the hose so it doesn't slip back any farther.

Reinstall!

I'm gonna take the car to the track in about an 1 hour. I'll post some results compared to last week tonight.

Sorry for the small pic. That's the closest I could get without the picture blurring.

Good luck Dr. evo. BTW, my post above should read build tolerances and peace of mind, maybe I am the drunk one? Oh well, maybe I will try the pill removal later, want to see some verified results and no fuel cut in cold conditions. Dr. Evo. are you stock, if so what were your times at the track? I have not been but will go soon. L8r.

Hey Dr. Evo,

When you say it's the "hose closest to the BCS plug" are referring to the pic that you posted showing the Solenoid? Thanks, trying to get a reference since you posted two pics.

Punisher,
Last week I went to the track with about 1700 miles on my Evo. It was my first time at the track in almost 2 years.

I managed a 13.7 @ 97mph w/ 1.84 60'. That is completely stock.

Since then I've added the home made intake I have pictured in one of my other posts in this thread. Your BOV hose clamp mod and now the restrictor.

I'm going to the track tonight and will post my times later tonight.

Let me know what you run when you head to the track. I'm curious as to see what other bone stock Evo's are doing.

When I ran the 13.7, there were 3 other Evo's out there. Their times ranged from 14.2-14.6mph at about 95-96mph.
