Removing the boost restrictor pill isn't new. You have to do it when you go with a Vishnu XEDE. Damn thing is a pain in the *** to get out by hand. I HIGHLY recommend using a regular pair of pliers to ease the pill out (needle nose might pinch the line). As mentioned it's the hose CLOSEST to the front of the car.

Don't know what kind of problems (overboost?) are possible by removing the restrictor pill without engine management.

Tightening the clamp is worth a shot, I think I'll give it a go tonight.

Anyone else had success or not with the clamp tightening? Malibu Jack? anyone.... Also anyone else remove the pill bone stock (as I am) with favorable gains. BTW Dr. Evo, your intake fabrication simply looks like a thin piece of foam clamped over the air mass sensor. Be very careful, because it looks too thin to filter dust etc... Just trying to help a fellow evo owner out! I am really curious to see what you run though. Let us know!

you will not overboost by removing the restrictor the ecu will still bleed boost off. the highest it will reach is 24psi in cold weather. the evo fuel cut is 29psi. one of the test for cheking a boost problem is see if the turbo will boost by diconecting the acuator rod line and going wide open throttle in 3rd gear sending the car into overboost. this is a test that we at mitsubishi have to do when checking for boost problems.

Did the clamp tightening and was able to try it out on some poor guy taking an SRT4 for a test drive. Needless to say, the acceleration is slightly better on top (5000+ rpms) with the tighter clamp and the SRT got a really nice view of the of the EVO.

Glad it helped awd, hope others get positive results as well. Any guesses to Hp gains with pill removal? Maybe we can get responses from those who have tried it and have a boost gauge (I don't). I love these damn Evos.

Im curious as well about the pill removal. I dont want to damage anything. I think anything above 22 psi is too high on a stock EVO. I would think you would need some fuel mods (fuel pump, fpr etc) I want to try it but not at the risk of damaging anything. I plan on getting a turboback and dynoflash or P2 soon so i dont know if I want to mess with it. Any thoughts?

Thumbs up

Okay, here are the results of tonights track tests.

Sorry it took so long. My scanner was acting up.

The first run is with no cool down. Just got off the interstate, checked in and made a run.

The 2nd run is with a 15-20 minute cool down.

The 3rd is with a 5-6 minute cool down before I got back in line.

Last Thursday I ran a best of 13.7 @ 97mph with a 1.84 60' at the track. This was my first time at the track in almost 2 years and my first time driving an AWD car. When I ran 13.7 there was a good tail wind and the air was actually a bit chilly.

Tonight was more humid and there was a good head wind.

Here's the timeslips below. Note: I did not notice a significant gain with the restrictor moved. However, seems like the turbo doesn't spool as quick below 4000 rpm's. This wasn't such a big deal to me as the car spend it's time above 5000 rpm's in the 1/4 mile.

I do think it made overall daily driving a bit for responsive and fun.

All in all, I'd recommend the restrictor mod.
