Hey everyone,

So for the past year, I've been having an odd whine
whine on my Evo 8. I thought it was the transfer case death whine, so the transfer case was just replaced, however the whine hasnt changed. Even after replacing all the fluids (rear diff, trans, etc), it's still whining. The whining only happens when accelerating at speeds above 30mph. It is specifically loud at light throttle, 5-10%, anything over 25% throttle, the whine is much quieter, but still noticeable. And as soon as I take my foot of the throttle, it's completely quiet. The whining sounds like it's coming from the front of the car aswell. Tried searching around, but haven't seen anything like this. So not sure if it's the trans, rear diff, or if someone sold me a bad tcase. Any help is appreciated.

Do you have torque solutions mounts and upgraded rear diff & mustache bar bushings? Mine started whining when I upgraded mine.

Sounds like a t-case death whine to me.

Seems like t-case whine. Mine was also like that but gone after I swapped it. FYI my whining t-case still has perfectly good gears so I guess the whine comes from the bearings.

 

Is it possible if it's from the front of car maybe check turbo shaft play? Seriously asking here. T-case was swapped what else up front is gonna whine?

 

The turbo is brand new and has no shaft play, so that definitely is not the issue :/

 

Yep unfortunately 😂 its weird tho, cause even after swapping in the other transfer case, the car whines the same way and same loudness as it did with the old one

Assuming you just picked up a used T-case? Who did the swap? Did they do a proper fill of fluid? (https://www.jackstransmissions.com/b...t-case-filling)

I had the same thing happen on my 05 back in the day. T-case whine started, picked up a used case for cheap(ish), same whine issue.

 

None! Did a boost leak test after the turbo install and everything was fine

 

Yea, picked up a used tcase, guy said it only had 60k miles on it and didn't whine

​​​​​​And had a Subaru/Mitsubishi/GTR shop do it, Procom racing, so if they work around those cars, they should have done it right

 

If you still have your old T-case, send it to TRE / Shep/ Jacks and get it rebuilt.
