So my Evo 8 has recently decided to start locking me out of 4th and 5th. Ended up replacing my clutch from a CC stage 2 to CC stage 4, 6 puck clutch system, thinking that was the issue, but no. While replacing the clutch I noticed my TOB looked beat up, but besides that everything else looked okay.

Unfortunately, I continued to get locked out of the same gears.

I'm thinking it's time to rebuild my transmission.
After doing my research around this forum, the most mentioned shops were ShepTrans, JacksTrans, and TRE.

So I decided to try to contact all of them to get more info.
At the moment I'm thinking about pulling the trigger with JacksTrans. They've been the easiest to get a hold of and have been the most helpful.

Does anyone have any experience with any of those shops mentioned above?

 

my .02 Shep or TRE and or Dan Buschur. Wouldn't even put jacks in the same sentence. I had all my dsm stuff done by Shep, Tre is local to me and may do my evo stuff and if you need stock rebuild Dan Buschur.

 

Why not? I've heard a lot of positive about them, they're active in this forum, and seem to back their product up when people have a complaint.

 

Jack's performed my initial EVO IX 5 speed rebuild and it was done very quickly and with no problems. I also purchased some parts from them a few years back for the GTR, which was a great experience. Since last year they have been increasingly difficult to get a hold of and you can no longer call and speak with someone that can answer technical questions as it all goes through some lady named Angela. When I rebuilt my EVO trans last year to swap in an EVO 8 5th gear and 4.09:1 final drive, I purchased those things from Jacks. However, it was painful having to work through Angela and getting responses to simple question prior to purchasing the parts sometimes took several days.

Fast forward to July of this year, I completely rebuilt my GTR transmission myself and purchased about $5K in various parts. I called Jack's to get some of the parts I needed and to ask some basic questions about available part options, but got stuck in Angela jail. In the case of my GTR, I was unable to talk with anyone who could answer basic questions and Angela demanded that all questions be run though her. I would send emails requesting quotes on parts and couldn't get a response. I then called to ask if I could get the quote and Angela apologized, but again didn't send the quote. I ended up taking my business elsewhere because as much as I wanted to support Jack's, having to work through Angela was a nightmare and a total waste of my time.

Unless Jack's has something I can't get anywhere else, I won't do business with them again.

 

Ask TRE and or Shep about them. I know people in both parties and if it were me I wouldn't do it.

for what its worth... i have a evo 9 with a shep trans in it, full cryo treatment...

and a evo 8 with a jacks trans in it, full treated... also.

the jacks trans is the best shifting 5 speed ive ever drove.

maybe a fluke...

Angela was not following through with providing responses to my technical questions nor did she provide me with quotes per my email and verbal requests. Regarding the trans, it performed flawlessly so no complaints there.

 

I have a Jacks 5 speed with most of the options. I did a swap from my 6 speed and had Jacks source a core for me. Overall the transaction was smooth and more importantly the transmission is performing perfectly.

I did not deal with Angela.....

 

Okay, thank you for clearing that up.
At the moment I've currently been waiting for angela to get back with me letting me know if they could do some upgrades I requested on the standard trans build (roller bearings and output tube upgrade).
About two days now.

In the meantime, I'm getting a hold of Sheptrans and if things go more smoothly with them, I'll send it that way.

 

Wish I could get a hold of TRE.

 

Same story for over a decade. He is impossible. I'll never use TRE again for anything.

Sounds like Jacks is like that now too. Must be a trans guy thing.

 

Yet everyone is all "TRE..TRE.. TRE"

 

If you can actually get him to communicate with you enough to get a transmission from him, they do work well. My TRE built 5 speed was great.

 

They were my first choice.
