Possible low compression

Bought a Evo 8 that has been sitting for a long time. In two years it has been driven once. He told me compression is low but from what I have read a lot of it has to do with the car just not being driven. Car is very sluggish but i suspect it’s also tune related. Last time it got tuned was in 2013 and not sure if it’s still the same tune etc.. we did a compression test today and one cylinder is low but I think I will drive it for 2-3 weeks and retest again and see how it goes. Anyone had anything similar where car sat for so long? Gas is also very old so the sluggishness I am sure is part of that also

#4 isn't doing so hot compared to the others. Would suggest a leak down test, and borescope that cylinder.

that’s what I plan on doing. Want to drive the car for a few weeks and retest again to see if it was just from sitting so long

I'd just do the leak down now. It will at least get you pointed in a direction.

While not impossible it improves if driven, it seems pretty unlikely given that the dry and wet compression test were the same. I'd be looking hard at a big scratch in the bore or a leaky valve.

It "could" have a sort of stuck ring that "might" come free with some driving.

Not likely though.

Yea I'd be looking for damage over anything. The car sitting too long shouldn't affect the bores or rings and make the engine lose compression. Unless it's sitting for a VERY long time and very bad storage conditions.

Yup, that was my thoughts as well. It isn't "impossible" that it would improve but a leak down would at least point in a direction before he just drives it around to see what happens lol.

Low reading when wet (ie teaspoon of oil) means bad valve in #4.

Oil (Wet) will seal the rings but not the valves.

that honestly would be better then have ring issues anyway. Will do a leak down test!

Compression and leak down are a static test. Its possible to have a worn cylinder with those test but still run decently. If its not fouling the plug out or smoking alot I would drive it a few tanks of fuel and recheck the plugs.

there is absolutely zero smoke. Had a rough idle when you crank it for the first few minutes but it’s been 13years since it been tuned and it’s turned on speed density so I think the tune needs a touch up. But once you drive it a little everything seems completely normal. Slow but it is stock so
