Most cars don't have knock sensors at all and if the knock sensor is the problem which the group that does the project EVO decided it was that caused the po300 for them then if the engine isn't knocking why does it really matter until you do any major timing upgrades or engine changes..... most cars (including the EVO) don't just randomly knock just for the hell of it.

I started getting he P0300 after getting cams installed. Mine only happens when the car is at idle.

Also, when I got the Mitsu reflash it went dormant for about 3 months. But now it's back and as annoying as ever.
I've called my local dealership and asked about a P0300 code fix. They had no idea and knew nothing about it. I go in for scheduled maintenance in a couple weeks, so I'll bug them about it again.

Yes. Loud vibrations, scroll up a few pages and read what I've been describing.

I have a Forge Motorsports DV (similar to BOV but redirects instead of purely venting out to the atmosphere). I didn't throw the code or get the vibration until I put it on. Dunno if it's a coincidence or not, but had abou 15,000 trouble-free miles first. Then this appeared about 1500 after the install. Might experiment switching it out just to try.

I still have the p0300 problem, I have had it ever since I bout the car... I believe it started 2200 miles after I bought the car, it got really bad, it happened in 2nd-5th gears, then i finally got the mitsu reflash, and it went away for 2 days, then came back, I do a lot of highway driving and I still get it every so often, it will happen 6 times or so in the same trip and then it usually goes away for a while... wtf mitsu blows, they have no idea what to do next... I shoulda bought a subaru...

Yeah it's a ****ty situation man, you might as well look into lemoning the thing or get used to it. I was in your shoes for about 10k miles (lots of highway) and it drove me to the brink of insanity.

Just wanna let everyone know. I switched out my Forge DV for the stock one. First time I pulled on the Interstate, I leveled out around 78mph - and bam the same problem! Dunno... I might switch out the AMS Lower IC pipe just to check it.

I wouldn't bother meng. Go buy a standalone, forget about your warranty, and yer all set.

You Guys Know That If You Take Your Car To Mitsu For The Reflash You Better Not Have Any Parts On It, If So There Goes Your Warranty.

I thonk some of these guys are more on to it with the knock sensor and random vibrations having something to do with it....

I've thought about investing in more mods - some sort of standalone would be the next logicial choice. However, I don't have the $$ right now. I'm also more worried about the vibrating rather than the actual P0300 code itself. I know they happen at the same time, but the vibrating is both annoying and a little scary! I don't wanna put more $$ (that I don't have) into the car at this point.

Thought about switching for colder plugs?

Plugs didn't do it for me. I went to denso iw24's (1 step colder, and they were great at smoothing out the upper rpm range) but I only did it to compliment the turboback I had, not because of the p0300.

You should read through this thread. The vibration you feel is only a RESULT of the p0300 code being thrown. What you are feeling is severely retarded timing as the ecu throws everything into a state of "limp mode" if you will. It continues until you release the gas pedal, then restarts once the ecu detects another instance of "knock".

The vibration itself, which we've speculated originates in the transmission or nearby drivetrain components and is the supposed cause of the p0300 issue, I don't believe has any detrimental effects on the car, not even in the long run.

This theory makes sense since I started getting the P0300 AFTER getting cams installed and ONLY happens at idle when the idle is lumpy due to the cams.

well i have noticed that in certain instances, including the 1st time it ever happened, I threw the p0300 just as i hit a bump in the road, then got the vibration resulting from the error code... it also happens for no apparent reason, but like most only at light throttle in 5th gear now that i have had the PCM reflash from Mitsu, before that i happened in every gear

get a stand-alone if you think its ECU-related
replace the tranny (maybe even the transfer case), if you think it has something to do with that "harmonic distortion" theory.

the factory flash "alleviated" (as in, I get it relatively less now) the problem

Jay, how are the cams otherwise?
Have you spoken with Pete yet?
I had the P0300 before and after my cams...for now, I think the biggest help (w/o having to spend $$) would be the factory flash.
I'm saving up for an HKS FCON V (it's semi-standalone), hehehe
