Random Misfire 0300: Dealership reflash available...
I don't know what any of you guyz out west are putting in your Evos, but you are getting me in trouble at my dealership. Out here in the Midwest, I only run 93 octane from BP or Holiday, and I got my service writer asking me at every visit if I run race gas or some sort of fuel additive. What a load of crock. Anyway, they pulled the plugs and replaced the injectors. Doesn't run any different, but they showed me my plugs and said that the reddish hue around the tips was from some sort of fuel additive...I told him I never put that stuff in, which is actually true...He said it might be a certain brand of fuel. I have NEVER had a fuel problem with maintstream filling stations before, so this is just another corporate BS line from MITSU...Just thought I would update...I'll let you all know when the light comes back on!!!

Threaten to have them buy back the car. Say it is illegal to sell a car that cannot pass emmissions, which is true, tell them you want a rental car until it is fixed and guaranteed.
If all else fails, park your car RIGHT upr front with a lemonade stand and give every customer a lemon for free, stating that it is better then paying $30,000 for one.

MY light is back on. Third time in a month. do you think if they do the re-flash it will cure this problem? I am going to open a case file with Mitsu in the morning. I am not happy having to spend my free time at the dealer, I paid to much for this car to let this problem go unresolved. I guess I would have to give Mistu the chance to try and fix it first before going for the buyback?
bahahaha. Who would've guessed that the P0300 would plague me yet again...
It popped on this morning on my way to work, in 5th gear, 80% throttle, 80~mph or so. I felt the car emitting a mild vibration in the pedal and when I looked down the SES light was right there staring at me. I swung by the dealership on my lunch break and confirmed that it was in fact my 3rd occurrence of the P0300.
My friend at the dealership was going to reflash me but his equipment wasn't working and I had to get back to work so I am going to have to go back another time. Nonetheless, It sounds like the reflash is helping at all. *sigh*

Taking my car to HB Mitsubishi in the morning. I was told that Mitsu has another flash as of two weeks ago. My car will be the next test rat. I will let you know what happends.

For all of you who are sick and tired of the P0300 and the dealer and or Mitsu is giving you the run around, you can take action against them. Mitsu does have to attempt to fix the problem per the Lemon Law. Depending on which state you live in, they typically have three attempts at solving a problem. if the problem still persists and you are sick of it, you can enact the Lemon Law to have the vehicle "bought" back, so to speak.

Hey all, an update from the webguy.
My car is now back to stock 100%. I _just_ installed the stock exhaust last night. Man what a difference, it's really sad. Anyhow, my plan per my lawyer, is:
1) take car back to dealership so they can clear all the error codes from the ECU, in essence starting me with a clean slate. This also allows them to document that the car is, in fact, stock, so they cannot blame any problems on aftermarket parts again.
2) wait for car to misfire again (at this point I know exactly how to duplicate it)
3) return to dealership so they can document the STOCK car throwing the p0300.
4) begin buyback process via my lawyer.
I am hoping this will all be over by the end of November.
32e, I hope you can get the thing bought back. I am indeed going back to bimmerland baby.

Update!
Now that my car is 100% stock, I took it to the dealership today. They hooked up the machine and low and behold, NO error codes to pull. WTF mate? So I got out without paying, AND i got it officially documented that my car was 100% stock factory specs/parts and that we are starting with 0 error codes. I told my service guy, "I'll call you when it misfires again."
On my way home it misfired, 8 times.
Now I have the CEL, I have p0300 instances while the car is 100% stock, and NOW Mitsubishi you are going to do something about it.
More to come...

well... I've been following this thread for quite some time now. I have the p0300 misfire error with the SES light and my problem is identical to the problems listed in this thread. I have already reverted my 2003 evo back to stock condition. I have made 2 cross country trips (CA to FL and back) with the error active and I hate it. I have registered the problem with Gainesville Ford/Mitsubishi in Gainesville, FL and with Bob Baker Jeep/Chrysler/Mitsubishi in Carlsbad, CA. In FL i was told it was a "bent steering knuckle" which they could not locate, then a "bent rim" which didn't fly. The I was told it was a "flat spot on the tires" at which point I laughed at the technician, asked to see his certifications and told him he was a moron. I brought printouts of this thread to the dealership and talked directly to the owner of the dealership who was an excellent customer service rep. He took me to the tech and had the tech check to ODBII qeue's and sure enough, there it was. He then told his technician that he wanted the problem fixed immediately.
The error was not fixed by the time I left to return to CA. He appologized for not being able to fix the problem, forwarded all the notes to Bob Baker Mitsu.
Sinse arriving back in Cali, the service department has been excellent thus far. They believe in the Drivetrain/harmonic resonance theory and are replacing my transmission to try and see if that will fix it. Clutch and all. The technician has been working with me directly with no middle man and he says he will replace the entire drivetrain turbo and engine if he has to. He has already had one p0300 error result in a lemon law buyback and he says he doesn't like losing a fight to a machine.
In the meantime, I am cruising around town in a base model 1999 mustang. It is a lot like driving a 50ft yacht using only a trolling motor. I hate it. But I am not going to give up as long as the technician is being so open with me. If there are any changes, I will keep you posted. The tranny swap should be accomplished tomorrow and I will post again and let you know if there is any change. In the meantime, if you see a 99 mustang in the slowlane on the 5, be kind, it might not be his fault. :P
