The car is going in on Monday, for a general diagnosis...I will be driving it all weekend, and "hopefully???" the ses light will come back on so the service team doesnt think I am wacked! BTW, when the car was in Chicago last Friday it a Mitsu tech who was "really up to date on all the service bulletins"...and he said, "There is NO bulletin for a reflash on the EVO..." To quote John Cash, "So I laughed in his face, and I spit in his eye!", the laughing is true, and I told him to look again. He checked and saw nothing...then after my oil change, the f---er comes up to me and says that the bulletin was just a little lower on the page....So I got some monkey that doesn't know how to scroll, telling me that I am wrong and I have no idea what I am talking about or what Fort Laud did to the car...Some expert tech this buttmunch was!!!...

I will report back on Monday once the car is in...

^ hahaha, sounds like every other Mitsu dealer experience I've had.

Don't worry about the SES light being off, the codes are stored still along with all the data they need for this analysis. Just to get a brief overview, your situation looks like this right?

- SES light came on, p0300 confirmed (visit #1)
- reflash issued (on visit #1, or a 2nd visit?)
- p0300 returned
- injectors swapped (visit #???)
- SES light on then now off, p0300 again, now taking it back for service visit #???

Just wanna know how many times you've been in for it already.

The problem has nothing to do with the injectors. It has everything to do with drivetrain noise.

sorry if this a dumb question but what is 0300 random misfiring anyway? I don't know to much about the recalls and stuff, but I am getting me a used evo very soon. Could you perhaps fill me on in what this is and maybe all the recalls I should check into to see if my used evo i am getting is in good shape? thank you.

Do a search for p0300 it has been covered a lot. Also start a new thread if you don't feel those topics give you all the info you need. This thread is about how we are trying to remedy the misfire situation, as well as experiences in getting this actually remedied (which as you can see isn't working so well).

Rough Timeline-

1. 1800 miles SES light on...while on 2000 mile road trip from Minneapolis to Fort Lauderdale
- Stop in Tennesse...Check code, 0300, reset light, send me on way..
2. 2000 miles SES light on...
- Stop in Jacksonville, FL...Check code, 0300, reset light, send me on way...
3. 2200 miles SES light on...
- Finally in Fort Lauderdale...Reflash computer...
4. Do a lot of around town driving and never get back on to highway for extended period of time...then at 3400 SES light on, take to Fort Laud. Dealer again.
- They have the car for 3 days. Put 50 miles on car, no luck, learn nothing, reset light...I leave Fort Laud for Minneapolis...
5. 3600 miles SES light on AGAIN!...Drive to Chicago with lots of hesitation..and stumbeling probs...
- Chicago Mitsu Dealer knows nothing of fault code prob, or reflash. I attempt to educate their "Star Tech"!...He checks codes and, any guesses?? ANYONE? Right 0300...
- They leave light on...
6. 5500 miles car sits for 3 days no driving...I go to start the car and drive home from Chicago to Minneapolis and the light is off. I drive it home, no light problems, nothing....
7. 6200 miles, car goes in on Monday Aug 23rd...I'll let you know what happens...

Nice, you definitely qualify for a lemon law buyback! That stumbling you describe in #4 is my peak peeve with this issue. I couldn't drive to work without having to deal with it for several months there.

Thanks for keeping me/us posted.

Yikes! Some of you guys have it bad!

I've had the P0300 twice, but it hasn't come on for about 4000 miles now. I'm holding to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy.

However, I am keeping a close watch on what you other guys are going through. By the looks of it, things are not going well with the reflash.

So I was out driving around with an 2001 M Coupe S54, and the SES light came back on. Ironically, I was driving the Coupe and my friend was driving the Evo. Pretty standard, ~80mph light throttle...At least the light will be on for Monday's appt...

This whole problem and the difficulty getting the reflash if you have a piggyback is seriously making me consider throwing my ecu off a cliff and getting the AEM......

I thought about that 'solution' as well, unfortunately that pretty much destroys any remaining warranty coverage you may have. Not that it really matters, since it seems having a diverter valve has a similar effect.

I have the Vishnu Xede piggyback and have had the PO300 reflash done sucessfully twice and at two different dealers. And don't ask why it was done twice, it's too long of a story. No PO300 for 6 weeks now.

Guys....I suggest that even if you only get the code once, you should bring your car to your local dealership. Heres why....

If the code comes back in the future and the dealership can't fix things for you, the car will need to be bought back by the manufacturer. The manufacturer does a depreciation calculation based upon the number of trouble free miles you experienced before bringing your car in for 0300 service. The lower the miles, the more money you can expect in the buy back process. Each 10k miles you drive can cost you 12% of your cars value.

SC, are you dealing with the Mitsu arbitration process? For the California lemon law, this is the provision statement for the buyback:

(taken from http://caag.state.ca.us/consumers/general/lemon.htm)

The law requires that if the manufacturer or its representative in this state, such as an authorized dealer, is unable to service or repair a new motor vehicle to meet the terms of an express written warranty after a reasonable number of repair attempts, the manufacturer is required promptly to replace the vehicle or return the purchase price to the lessee or buyer. The purchase price that must be returned includes the price paid for manufacturer-installed items and transportation but does not include the price paid for nonmanufacturer items installed by the dealer. The lessee or buyer is completely free to choose whether to accept a replacement or a refund. Whatever the choice, the manufacturer is also responsible to pay for sales or use tax; license, registration, and other official fees; and incidental damages that the lessee or buyer may have incurred such as finance charges, repair, towing, and rental car costs.
