Random Misfire 0300: Dealership reflash available...
It's been months, but I ran into an Evo owner from Chicago down on business. We pulled off the road to chat a bit and congratulate each other on fine taste (both Apex silvers, even).
He claimed that he had misfire codes and they replaced the transmission (what parts he didn't specify) and that his problem had been gone since. He also said the car felt faster *shrug*.
Has anyone run into this situation/solution???
I've got an SES light and hate to go in, but will find out soon what it's been about.

KazzEvo, yes there's another person on this board who had the tranny replaced. That is the ultimate solution: Mitsubishi would need to replace all p0300 affected cars with transmissions of a new 'revision' which do not emit this particular vibration.
Unfortunately when the tranny is replaced with the same model, it is only a matter of time before it wears in enough to start emitting the vibration again. That happened to the person who had it replaced on this board as well.

They haven't publically admitted anything, nor officially, but my service managers that I have spoken with have all told the same story. That's what the ECU reflash was all about...
I got my first bit of info about the tranny being the culprit from the tech who first looked at my car in Rochester. He got the info from Mitsu Tech Line. They admitted (the district rep, the service manager, tech line) that replacing the tranny would fix the problem temporarily, but that they didn't want to do that because of the expense.
Can you imagine how much $$$ they would lose if they issued a tranny recall for every evo?

Got the Mitsu reflash last Saturday. Since then, I've put on about 300 miles and today after driving to work and while idling to cool down.... I get the ugly glowing light shining in my dash again.... argh. BTW. Bone stock car.
I won't know for sure what the code is until I get it pulled..... but I've only been getting PO300's...
Secret Chimp... I went to xxxxxxx Mitsu too.... I guess I need to call Doug or Matt to see what happens next.
Love the car and the service at the dealer... but my faith in the quality and response by CORP MITSU is dwindling...
08/14/04 (Saturday) 10:00am- Update
SES code was the 300 code again.
Tech re-flashed it again and we took it for a test drive to try to replicate the SES again. No luck Gonna give it another try... if I get it again.... I was told Mitsu would be called and we would go to the next step to try to troubleshoot. Everytime I have gottent the 300, I have NOT noticed any hesitation while driving as described by some others....
Will update my post like this as more develops....
2nd update of the day
08/14/04 (Saturday)4:00pm
No more than 8 hrs after the re-flash..... again the SES light pops on.
Again... bone stock car. Normal (not extreme) driving style.
More as it develops.
08/16/04 (Monday)
Spoke to Service Manager at dealer.... Trying to arrange a Mitsu rep to take a look at my car. More later.
Mitsu rep looked at my car. Authorized injector replacement, however I don't believe the dealer techs could conclusively determine (via diagnostics) that injectors were an issue. Plugs appeared to be to spec also. Again, in my case... the dealer is doing everything they can to the best of their knowledge and what Mitsu corp is allowing them to do.....
I wonder if any R&D dept (does US MITSU have and R&D?) is doing research to the cause, or is it more cost effective at this point to just patch and go for now?
Man.... for those of you who haven't experienced evo "driving" withdrawal.....the urge to drive the evo is harder to kick than a drug addiction (joke for those who are hyper sensitive to drug jokes)... or harder to ignore than not smelling someone eating "Corn nuts" near you. lol.
Thanks for the update dude.
I had another misfire incident twice this weekend. That's AFTER I took off the HKS RS and Forge d/v and put back the entire stock intake system.
Now I am burning to get my $210 back from those bastards after charging me for diagnosis and blaming it on my forge d/v. Do you guys think they will give me my cash back? It's like focking robbery IMO.
Pissed,
Chris

On the subject of EVO withdrawl- not to start a new thread -but the dealership gave me an 2002 Lancer OZ Rally automatic with 26000 miles on it as a loaner car...now I am suffering some withdrawl...The service writer I spoke to today, said that they reflashed the car AGAIN!, and they would call later when it is done! HAHA...Wut a F---ing JOKE!

If the code comes back in the future and the dealership can't fix things for you, the car will need to be bought back by the manufacturer. The manufacturer does a depreciation calculation based upon the number of trouble free miles you experienced before bringing your car in for 0300 service. The lower the miles, the more money you can expect in the buy back process. Each 10k miles you drive can cost you 12% of your cars value.

I'm crossing my fingers that it won't happen again, but who knows. If it does, I will not be a happy camper.
Well I finally heard back from the Mitsu Dealer. They reflashed the car and are ordering new injectors and plugs. I am picking up the car today, and then bringing it back sometime next week when the new injectors are in. Does anyone have a link to the buyback procedure for MN or IL???

Fritz, here's a site where you can get your state's law specifics:
http://www.lemonlawamerica.com/
I recommend you start with a lawyer. Don't bother with the Mitsu arbitration process unless your lawyer says you need to go that route. Most LL lawyers get paid by the manufacturer once the case is settled, or they get nothing at all.
Good luck, sounds like run-of-the-mill BS fix-it attempts to me.

I know it might not work for many of you, but my car seems to be doing so much better after reflash fix and also fuel injectors replaced. No CEL after 1000 miles and I realized that the rear bumper is no longer brown or black. Just keep my fingers crossed.
BJai-
Are you saying that you think the new injectors and the reflash leaned out the motor a little? I still am waiting on the injectors, but have already had the reflash, and that thing still spues soot from the tailpipe...Does your car seem to be making more power?? Any stronger above 5500rpm? Mine is just flat north of 5500rpm...
