Well i keep getting the error, honestly after reading on here I am basically ignoring it letting the light go on and off, i want to see what happens with your all's buybacks before i start going back to stock. keep those of us who are still on the fence on this issue updated and thanks for your all's info
I had the latest reflash from Mitsubishi done to my car courtesy of Santa Monica Mitsubishi. I got no error codes for about month, then it came on again last night. I heard Huntington Beach, CA Mitsu has a great service dept. and understands what aftermarket parts do/don't void the warranty. Anyways, went to HB Mitsu today for a Service Engine Soon light, and they diagnosed it as the 0300 Random Engine misfire code. They then claimed that my car alarm which has a remote start feature has a "spliced" wire going to the coil which "could" be the cause of my 0300 error code and that has voided my warranty. The tech wrote on my service write up "WARRANTY VOIDED". WTF is that all about???? What the heck does my remote start have to do with the 0300 error code? So am i blacklisted among all the dealers? Do all the dealers know my warranty is voided or only the dealer i dealt with knows?
skiracer, your dealer has to submit your VIN to Mitsu corporate. Then it gets black listed. They may or may not have done this, but regardless you do now have a service record with a noted voided warranty, so yes you are focked unless you find another dealer who is willing to work with you to get that reversed. It's gonna boil down to you having to remove your remote start, regardless. I feel for you man, it's the same **** I had to go through only I had to reverse all of my mods completely.
Hummm... I went on a fun drive this weekend with the Vivid crew and threw yet another P0300 on the drive. Then this morning it threw 6 MORE!!! *SIGH*
I felt a serious vibration in the front of the car each time it "misfired" so it looks like a trip to the dealership for me. GRRR

They also make notes about damages to the car from previous accidents. Hey Matt if you're watching this board, thanks for clearing it up.
naucrx, you're reflashed correct?
I've been avoiding 5th gear until freeway speeds due to the SES light. But, if there's a transmission swap lurking to get rid of the vibration I thought I'd go after it.
Had a country 2-lane trip and sure enough, there it came - doin' about 50-55 with SLIGHT acceleration. With that the vibration was WORSE. I've noticed it a few times down around that same condition - 50-60mph with slight acceleration.
Now, 5th gear at 50MPH is in the owner's manual as ideal for fuel mileage. Doing so with or without the SES light has ALWAYS elicited a low, rumbling vibration and noise in the cabin. I now have just over 25K on the odo and can't say it's worse than when I bought it, but I've been living with it - thinking it's just a characteristic of the type of car and avoiding recreating it (especially with passengers in the car - my wife borderline hates the thing *shrug* ... she can keep her Camry).
The reason I post is this: we assume the vibration is causing the misfire, correct? Once the computer goes into SES the vibration seems worse (last time the SES STAYED on forever until I removed fuses instead of being gone in a day or two). I wholly intend to present at the dealership with the light and complaining of the vibration. I've not thoroughly tested, but I don't seem to get anything like that vibration in any other gear (2-2.5K seems to be that "sweet spot", up to 3K). I'm going to tell them it's 5th gear only unless I can test it and find it worse.
Yes, I'm optimistic on a number of fronts that they'll honor something here and replace the tranny. God knows the P2 and shifter bushings didn't freak out the transmission - especially since it's been symptomatic since purchase. It's unfortunate now that I've not told them before, but, hey... *shrug*
So, WTF is "new" about the new transmission? Folks here say it's like driving a "new car" and I've had one, in person, tell me the car even seems faster???
Does anyone have technical knowledge of the need for the transmission swap (other than just saying it's from vibration, please) AND can anyone here with a NEW transmission qualify and quantify the differences if not technically/engineeringwise explain the differences in the new transmission???
THANKS!!!

I am having a same plm with my evo.. got p0300 code.... i just found this today.. so trm i am gonna try talk to my dealership and see what they can do and i ll update u all.. Many thanks for this.. i hope it ll work well for my car.. but does 8.5mm spark plug wires cause those plms? and i was wondering if i take UTEC out before i send to dealership to have them reflash the ecu for p0300? then put back UTEC so wont lose anything? pls let me know. Thanks
Kazz, 2003evolution, the first thing they are going to do is reflash you per the TSB. This is an ECU firmware update. They're not going to get into tranny replacements unless your district manager knows of the problem already AND has clearance/can get clearance to do such a repair.
I'm not even going to get into what they might tell you if your car is modded.
KULancer, this problem has nothing to do with the synchros or any other gear-related issues, it just happens to occur in 5th most prevalently. The tranny 'issue' at hand here is one of a vibration emitted from the tranny itself, there is speculation that it is lateral play in the input shaft. Who knows for sure, Mitsu won't admit to **** of course.

My Evo started giving me the P0300 at roughly 1400 miles, but didn't start getting ugly about it until about 8000 miles, all the while I have been waiting for this reflash, then it got really bad, it would hasppen in 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and maybe 2nd gears. My Evo shuddered like a SOB... Got my reflash today... so far, so good... it even feels more powerful and responsive. Low and behold, I am now at 13,600 miles...
