Taking in car for 5th Gear Grind

just going to take it in this morning. The only downfall i think i might have is that iam 19 and they might just profile me as some "Kid that races his car". Any suggestions before i go meet the sealership?? just wondering about the TSB. Can i bring it up?

i wouldn't worry too much about it. i recently had my 5th gear syncro replaced UNDER WARRANTY. I am only 21, and have lots of mods. I had no problems. As long as you haven't modified the drivetrain, you should be alright.

Well i took in my car and it was there overnight. I called this moring around noon and they told me that ther are going over the TSB and i will most likely have to approve for them to "Tear down the Transmission". thats the part iam worried about. Well this is just my rant about things. i havent had my evo for 2 days and its killing me. i just worried that the dealer wont do something right and that ill get it in worst condition than from when i sent it in. Sorry for just a useless thread. Can anyone comment on their experience and tell me if there car was ok after this proccess?

Why do they have to tear it down ?

The TSB tells them what to order.

I had to replace my 5th gear also under warantee. But I got my car back the next day.

I hope they do a better job with yours than my dads evo.. his was replaced and now it doesnt grind or throw a fit, its just worthless under 3.5 rpm... So unless where going over 80 he has to leave it in forth..

Whats going on is it feels like if you where to shift from 1to 4th instead of 2nd, just kinnda bogs down.

Not to worry it is fully covered and if they mess up they have to fix it. It is a factory defect not in anyway related to your drigning habits. I had to have mine done and it came our great. Whiile the trans was apart on the bench I asked to look at the clutch. I told the service writter I didn't like the looks of it and wanted to have it replaced. he told me no problem at all. I asked if I could go with a better than stcok set up and he told me he did not recomend other than stock but would do it. I asked how much for labor and he told me no charge.

If you decide to try getting yours done at this time, be careful the way you approach them. Remember that although they are making money off of you this is kind of a favor. It takes only about 25 minutes to change out the clutch and flywheel with the car up on a rack and the tran.s out so even if you have to pay some labor you will save at least a few hundred dollars. BTW if they have to get approval it will take them at least a day and then a day to do the work not to mention a couple of days to get the part so look at your car being down short time. If you can get them to do a clutch be sure to get one from a reliable source that won't string you out on delivery time. Good Luck and hope you give it a try.

Thanks for the replies. just needed some comfort words. I will stop by tomorrow and make sure everything is ok. Yeah tomorrow i will have to approve of them taking out the transmission, they did tell me that they had to order some parts so i dont know how long that would take.
Appreciate all the Comments.
