Whining Evo

Well I went I did some hard launches tonight and I it managed to wheel hop 2 times. It was pretty bad wheel hop........ Well my delema is that now when I decelerate in ONLY 1st gear, the car has a "dogbox" whine to it. This doesnt matter if I have the clutch in or out, it does it while slowing down in 1st gear. I have been reading that it may be the T case, but it only seems to be in first gear. Im going to change the fluids tomorrow and see if maybe it will go away (prays to God). Thanks for the help

It won't go away, it's definately the transfer case. Voice of experience speaking here - wheel hop in AWD car - very bad.

Hate to say it, but you were asking for it.

Especially after getting wheel hop once, why would you do it again.

Your Tcase will be gone soon.

I would have to hear the sound. I never had wheel hop and hear some kind of drivetrain decel noise.

"Wheel hop" is the drive tire(s) rebounding vertically off of the pavement due to the suspension reaction to loss of traction under acceleration during a hard launch. As the tires break loose upon launch on some cars, there can be an odd harmonic reaction that causes the wheels to "hop". Have you ever seen the pictures of the suspension bridge swaying in the wind that eventually collapses-similar concept.

Basically, the wheel is attempting to drive forward while the car is inert. Because the tire looses traction and the car remains relatively still in relation to the tire, the suspension soaks up the energy that the wheel is attempting to transfer into forward motion.

Wheel hop is definitely not good for AWD. Although I would think the clutch would get toasted first, correct?
