evo- import and export
i was at the local dealer yesterday, talking to the lead salesguy, and i asked him how many MR's they have moved through the lot. he told me that they have sold about 11-14 or so, but had some funny comments. apparantely they have sold about 6 of them to japanese student age guys who have all come in and paid for the car with a check. no finance, no bickering on price just walk in check the invoice, and start signing. now this is a little off, as the dealer is in Portland OR, and is not a huge dealer by anymeans, but perhaps the one with the best selection of lancers and evos. the salesmen explained they think that these guys are buying the cars here, and driving them for a few months, and then registering them as used, and shipping them back to japan. by shipping back to the country of origin they bypass any special taxing fees, and whatnot. and as he explained it, they buy and evo 8 here, ship it and still save about 10k on the deal. (he seems to think you can only buy an FQ320 in japan) and by registering the car as used, and avoiding taxation/title/origin licensing they are making a living selling them to brothers/freinds/family whatever. sounds fishy to me, but just curious if any of you have heard dealers talk about this, or what you think about it. its not an area for 18-20 yr old people ofter drop 36.5k on a new car, never to be heard from again. and it isnt a area where the dealer should have this much stock or sales of MR's. (5 on the lot yesterday when i was there- i bought my evo 5 months ago and they only had 3 color choices) sorry for the long post just curious what you guys thought.

Hehe you must be talking about Beaverton Mitsubishi. Those guys will tell you anything. When I asked about their MR's, they said every single one of them was spoken for. 1 was going to a tennis player, another one was going to an actor, and 3 were going to make some new movie...yeah right
When those salespeople talk don't listen to a damn word they say. You can tell when they are lying because their lips are moving.
Back when they got their first crop of Evos they had some different version of the "We have sold a bunch straight up cash" stories. Supposedly rich software engineers were paying cash for them and they were selling like hotcakes. In reality they weren't selling at all. That's why they always have a big selection, they ARE the biggest dealer in Portland don't get me wrong, but they don't actually move many of them so they tend to stick around. I think they just stand around and dream up these stories to try to drum up demand. It's all complete hor$hit.

Why you want to drive a LHD Evo in Japan? This doesn't make senses, if it were true, the guy would go to UK or Australia and buy the EVO shipped it back that way better, since it is RHD version of Evo and exactly like JDM.
what a bunch of B.S.
what a bunch of B.S.
