Evolution's + mitsu = junk
I've been driving stick for 27 years (most of 'em high performance cars and many of 'em AWD) and i've never had any clutch or tranny problems....period.
I'm in the market for a new car later this year and it's a toss-up between the evo ix and sti. After lurking here for a while I was seriously leaning towards the sti because of all the clutch/tc problem posts i've been reading. However, I'm beginning to think that most of these problems are due to abuse, poor driving, constant 5k lauches, drag racing etc. Think about it; the evo's been around for a LONG time in Europe with many iterations. If the clutch, tranny etc. were really crapola I think Mitsu would have done something about it before now....and the evo wouldn't have received all the aclaim that it has and achieved worldwide cult status.

I get a kick out of threads like this.. 4 clutches is a problem with the DRIVER... PERIOD.. you either rest your foot on the clutch, or drive like a moron..
I have 30k on my car, have run a 12.93 **STOCK** a 12.42 on a buschur stage 1 setup, and have done even better recently with some of my more recent tuning.. WITH A STOCK CLUTCH and never had any problems with my driveline except for a TSB related repair.
Any car will give you grief if you are hard on it.. Occasional abuse happens, but geez.. I drive pretty normally most of the time, and occasionally I let it all hang out.. and the car seems to enjoy it and get faster and faster..

These cars are nothing but problems from the door and thats why mitsu is going out of business.
sorry guys I also am believing I should have got an STi , I admit I am not a great driver but i accept the responsiblity of my clutch, not my suspension failure and having them not replace both tires as consequence of the suspension failure. at first before i biotched they werent gonna give me 1 tire just fix the suspension , by the way the rear tires due to the failure are bald while the front tires are not near the wear bar . go figure
Here is what my stock clutch has been through, and is still going strong.
1. 20k miles 'in town driving'
2. 9+ 2 day opentrack events. (very hard events
)
3. Stage 1+2 AMS setup
4. WIFE LEARNS TO DRIVE STICK
5. MY 11 YEAR OLD NEPHEW LEARNS TO DRIVE STICK (Straight A's 2+ years)
6. Wife learns to autocross on STOCK clutch.
I guess for those of you going through 4 clutches and TC's, I can see what my nephew is doing, maybe he can give some pointers.
