Guys im sorry but I need to VENT!!!!
How f*cking infuriating! If it were me, and it were established beyond doubt that my car were mistreated, I would quietly make the dealership's life a living hell (picket the dealership daily and try to discourage customers from doing business with them, letters to the editor, etc.) I would personally demand nothing less than a new engine, transmission, cutch, tires, and anything else that could have remotely been damaged by their little escapade. Unreasonable? Perhaps, but so what?

When u dropped off ur car did you get the RO (repair order) in what u requested to be worked on...that should be given to all customers when they drop off your car....on it it will say ur VIN and Mileage on your car....and you can show him the difference in mileage to the manager....
If there is more than a couple miles (testing for the malfunctions), in regards to the car. You could file a theft report against the dealership and make a civil suit.. If you can prove un needed, prolonged mileage without your permission.. That's considered theft. I threatened that to my dealership when I had warrantee work done to it.. There wasn't not 3 tenths of a mile on it when I got it back.. They know that they're not supposed to be driving them excessively.. I've arrested some mechanics for theft, for using the car without the owners permission..
Always take a picture of the mileage before you drop the car off!! Those sorry SOB's love it when EVOs are dropped off for service.... and NEVER tell them you are going out of town....they love to hear that crap....can you say over boost?

That's a very disappointing situation. It makes everyone in the industry look bad, and also casts a shadow of doubt on the trustworthyness of shop employees.
I can say honestly that I've been in both situations. I had a shop in Boston when I was younger grenade my flywheel through my transmission bellhousing on my Callaway turbo 320i. It was one of 5 made and the car caught fire on storrow drive after a piece of the flywheel pierced the gas tank. The car was totalled. That situation was disappointing and the car, irreplaceable.
Now, as a shop owner I'm mostly nervous when I test drive customers cars. Our shop has a 5K rev limit on test drives unless the customer (owner) is present in the car. The liability is too high and some of these cars carry bad and unknown history, for example.. a 1990 DSM that has 200k miles and is a daily street racer. The car is about to blow up and we'll be the last ones to want it to happen in our custody. We small shop owners are enthusiasts too, we let them warm up, cool down everything we do to our own cars. I think that small shops appreciate ownership a little more, the value of one car, one customer is too high to be lost on a stupid joy ride.
I'm just saying this because I think that a lot of shop owners think this way. We drive fast cars all the time so the excitement and novelty of a fast car is a bygone joy (at least on the street)
Hopefully this gets resolved. Maybe I can suggest some way that you can make out.. having them extend your warranty even with mods perhaps.. that might work to your favor. Your car is resillient and I'm hopeful that no damage resulted from this joy ride. It's a sports car I'm sure those kids didn't do any permanent damage.
Thanks for the sig too. You'll have to remind me when we met.

I worked at Circuit City for over 4 years and constantly saw their car audio installers take customer cars out for lunch and random trips. On one occasion a customer came in early for his car and walked back to the install area and didn't see his car. So he walked out back and didn't see his car. As he's arguing with the roadshop manager this kid rolls in with his car and like 10 tacobell bags. The guy flipped out. Circuit City tried to play it off as if they needed to test drive the car to make sure the speakers and radio were working fine but they guy knew better.
The dealer I bought my car from years ago had some of its employees take my car 300 miles (round trip) to go pick up another car from a dealership. I quickly learned my lesson after that. Thats why now whenever I bring my car in to get worked on I pretty much empty the car out so nothing gets stolen and get a signed paper from the service writer on how many miles are on my car.
