Sinister, you should come to our Dyno Day tomorrow at Extreme Motorsports ($50). You could see what you're putting down...

I'm not familiar with where Extreme Motorsports is.

It probably wouldn't be real beneficial to hit the dyno anyway, because it's doubtful I'm making much over stock. The only mods I currently have to date is a Cobb AccessPORT Stage 1 ECU tune and a K&N panel filter, if you even want to call that a "mod."

I actually have a free dyno session waiting for me at another shop, but I'm probably going to take advantage of that with my '94 Camaro. I'm confident that those results will be much more satisfying to view.

Thanks for the offer though, bro. Much appreciated!

This is my first post on the forums, and I've only had my Evo for 6 months, I went through the same looking at the STI and EVO, but if your going to spend that deal of money, I went with the leather because I've never seen an STI with leather. Perhaps I should have held out a little longer and went for the Evo XI. I never did test drive the STI but I didn't want to have that exhaust sound, to me, the STI always had like a bubble sound to it, I was reminded of my previous Honda Civic Si and Ex..but yes, it is all preference pretty much.

Why's it a good thing he didn't wait for the IX? The IX is way underrated at 286 hp. They're probably making closer to about 310 hp.

What's really excites me about the STi and the Evo is how evenly of of a toss-up it is between the two. I've weighed out the pros and cons of each car countless times, and while they both have their faults, they're just too close for me to make a decision on which is the better performing car of the duo. They're priced nearly the same (save for the MR), have the same basic DNA, and are nearly identical in all aspects of performance. The STi makes up for its disadvantage in handling with acceleration, while the Evo makes up for its slight disadvantage in acceleration with handling. Pick your poison.

See, at least with a Camaro Vs. Mustang, they're a little bit more "distanced" from eachother, so I'm able to make a clear decision between those two. The Camaro's faster handles better, while Mustang has slightly better refinement, and a more comfortable ride, etc. While the basic ideas behind the Camaro and the Mustang are the same, they're totally different cars that have taken totally different directions at achieving the same goal.

im in the same boat, except its been so long since ive owned a car, I test drove a subie, it was nice, I have test drove the standard evo and I was impressed with how the thing handles but I havent gotten behind the wheels of an MR (which is out of my price range ) Anyone in here have or drove an MR and an STI? what can you tell me ?

They are both great cars, I liked the EVO better. That is why I bought it.

I have owned STi for two years prior to purchasing IX MR. Sti is slightly faster acceleration wise due to its displacement advantage. Although I have not driven '06 STi, handling is not even comparable imo. Despite the fact that i have added Sti pink springs and cusco sway bars, MR outhandles it quite easily. Evo has less understeer and is easier to control during slides. Any power disadvange could be easily remedied by simple bolt on mods. Although I agree with everyone that both cars are great, Evo is better choice if handling matters to you the most.

Great post.

Isn't this subject beaten into the ground? I can't tell you how many times per week on www.iwsti.com that this same exact subject comes up. It must show up on an average of at least 3-4 times per week. Same post, different person. "Hey guys, I can't decide which one I should get. I like the Evo but the STi has a nicer interior and they have a better reliability record. But the Evo handles better. What should I do?" I mean, c'mon, you ask the question on an Evo site, and they're gonna tell you to get the Evo. You ask the same question on an STi site, and they're gonna tell you to get the STi. DUH.

Didn't we all buy the cars we did just because they fit us better? I think most of us can agree that they're both great cars, and if one didn't exist, we'd own the other. Hell, just because I own an STi doesn't mean I like the Evo any less, and I'm sure there are more than a handful of people here that feel the same way about the STi. We chose what we did just because they fit our needs better......
