I'm not sure what this comment means. I was impressed by an STi running 12.66@106 with such few mods. That's far better than the majority of the other STi's I've seen in person. The guy drove the hell out of the car to get such an ET. Maybe his mph was 1-2mph low? Is that what you mean by him not having any idea what he was doing? Do you run 12.66 by chance?

Btw, I don't have the timeslip memorized; I have it in my hand right now, because we ran side by side.

I also would say it's hardly "easy" to run mid 12s with those mods. The car should be capable of it, but it's by no means "easy." The plethora of STI's who ran 13s and 14s at the last shootout will atest to this. Don't worry, plenty of Evo's were doing the same thing, because it's not as easy as people think.

Hello everyone,
This is my first post on evolutionm and it seems fitting to make my first post in a sti vs evo forum, considering I own a sti. Before I bought my sti, I was looking at an 04 cobra (but lost interest in fairly soon) and of course the evo. I had good experiences at both the subaru and mitsubishi dealers. I was initially interested in the RS (you have to love a car that doesn't have power windows, locks and air conditioning, alhough my wife wasn't too keen on the idea) and finally was just looking at a evo VIII. I absolutely loved the steering feel and handling of the evo. The seats were great and the interior was fine (lets face it, you don't buy this kind of car for the interior), but I liked the power delivery of the sti more. I knew going into this car purchase, I wouldn't have the funds to mod my car, and that I would have to drive it stock for quite some time (currently working on a 1988 jeep wrangler, adding a 350 v8, full ton axles running on 39.5 tires so all my money is in the jeep) so stock for stock, I enjoyed the sti more. If I had the money for extras, the story may be different here. The sti vs evo thing is definately on par with the mustang/camaro battle of the 1960s-90s, and that is simply cool. I can say I like the sti more than the evo, but being a car fan, I truly love both the cars. Hopefully soon, I can keep the sti for a daily driver and get an rs for a track car.

The only current mods I have are a Cobb AccessPORT Stage 1 tune and a K&N panel filter. I don't plan on doing much more to it.

I can't tell ya what it runs, because I don't run my STi on the 1/4. I'd rather watch somebody else blow up their AWD. I need the thing to hold up for at least 6 years. I also have a Camaro, and that's the one I do my 1/4 trips in. The only events I've participated in with the STi is Solo.

I'll be more than happy to post a slip from the Camaro, but I can't help ya with slips for the STi.

I'm not interested in the camaro, run your STi, it shouldn't blow up. I've got a friend that dumps his at 7k w/ no ill effects.

Bring it down to MIR Nov 6.

I doubt he dumps his clutch at 7k. If he does, he'll be telling you about problems soon enough.

I'm going to be in Delaware next week, so I won't be able to make MIR on the 6th.

I prefer the RS because it is so stripped down, and not to mention cheap ;]

its going to be a biased answer but, evo hands down. sure on paper one has more hp and is suposedly quicker the quarter mile. but other then that its like what everyone else said here. personal preference. basically everyone on this site has went through this stage when they cant figure out which to get and which is better. and since my time started on here which was say around the febuary of 05 when i started really getting into this car. id have to say i've seen this question more then a few hundred times.

that's exactly how i feel about it... plus STi comes in like 2 colors(exageration, but not by much).

Exactly. Welcome to last year.

I think the guy said it best when he said that we have all been at the stage where we couldn't decide between the two, or that it was difficult.

It really sucked having to choose between the two, but you do what ya gotta do, and hope you make the right decision. I made the right decision for myself. Doesn't mean I like the Evo any less.

Hell, FWIW, next time around I won't be buying either. I'll (hopefully) be buying a 2009 Camaro Z28!
