Setting the record straight on the IX vs VIII

What we really need is an UP-TO-DATE time-slip registry with some base runs.

Don't know why - they certainly show different numbers on every other dyno. No idea why you're arguing this so vehemently like it's your life's mission to prove that IXs are not faster. It's an undeniable truth that has been proven time and time again. They are noticably faster stock, then MUCH MUCH faster with mods. Just look at my sig - less money and less parts for 30 more whp on the same tuning/dyno. And what's worse is some IXs have gotten up as high as 355whp on those parts with custom tuning. No VIII can touch that - not even close.
I jump on the train of general opinion on this one. I am one of the one to believe that the Evo 9 is just a hair faster than the Evo 8 in stock trim.
I also would agree that the Evo 9 benefits more from the same mods. Despite the Evo 9 looking very alike the Evo 9 it is very obvious that they made significant changes.

I have had my disagreements with Warr in the past but Yodobashi you're a fan of stirring the pot aren't you man? Face it, facts are facts. The IXs run faster 1/4 miles, do faster 0-60, dyno with more hp and torque and have a bit more grunt on the bottom end.
Is it such a huge difference that you should argue with everyone that validates this point?
No. Be happy with what you have. It's been stated 1000 times already. An Evo is an Evo.

The only things I have found otherwise are a couple anomalies and a bunch of dyno sheets from random dyno's with no real frame of reference. So far the only "proof" anyone has provided is restating "its common knowledge the IX is soooo much faster".
I have no beef - just looking for some actual evidence that goes beyond heresay and random observations. It won't hurt my ego if the IX is faster or not as I'm buying one this week either way.
PS - why do you continue to waltz around like some evo god WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN OWN ONE!!! Give me a break - have you ever even sat in one kid?
There is no hype.
1) Several IXs have run 12.9s with mediocre driving (weak 60's). One at least has done a 12.8. Go search LONGER and HARDER instead of just looking at a few whose IXs weren't as strong as others, or who just were in bad conditions.
2) Many, MANY have dyno'd higher on MANY, MANY dynos. Not sure what you mean by "no real frame of reference." 05s see 240-250whp on most Dynojets then IXs see 260-270whp on the same Dynojet - how hard is that to understand?
3) Magazines are getting higher MPH, but they don't get good ETs, because they don't know how to launch with the 5k limiter. That is why they are listed at 13.3s instead of 12.9 like they should be.
4) You can't go by seat of the pants. Most people can't tell a difference in stock form, and the smoother it is, the less powerful it feels. When I first got my mail-in Dynoflash, my car didn't feel any faster than it did with my own SAFC tuning, but I immediately went out and ran 12.26@110 on my first try after only doing a best of 12.52@108.5 on my own tuning. The car felt smoother, but not faster. Luckily, I rely on empirical evidence rather than my butt dyno.

I don't know how many times I've had to explain that it's hard to buy an Evo when you're studying abroad for a year... When I get home, it will literally be one of the first purchases I make. I'll probably not even eat until I buy it.
I do apologize if I missed something about not being able to post unless you actually own an Evo. In my opinion, anyone who is able to contribute to a specific community should be welcomed regardless of what they drive or don't drive. I would expect this kind of attitutde from a Porsche owner, but come on man. We're all adults here. At 22 I don't think you should be calling me kid... I've seen enough in my life to feel able to consider myself an adult, and I hope you will too.
You keep stressing that everyone talks about huge gains, and they don't really unless they're talking about bolt ons and flashes. Stock for stock most people acknowledge the fact that the differences are small, but the IX comes out as the victor. This would only be logical considering it is the next evolution of the Evolution!

"Buy a 9, i drove both and the 9 blew the 8 away in my opinion so..."

"I picked my Rally Red IX MR today... all I have to say is what a difference!!! I havent taken it over 5,000 rpm's but it feels alot faster than my old one."

"When I drove my friend MR8 I was not very impressed it was very very close to the 8 in many ways but when i drove the 9 today I felt real power for stock car.......
they say it 287HP but I say its no less than 325~330HP. this thing pulled very hard and it was very predictable"

"Oh, and for those interested in the engine, yeah, the IX feels much stronger."

"Stock 03s dyno around 220-230whp on a Dynojet while IXs have been dyno'ing over 260whp on Dynojets. Mitsu lists the difference at 15hp, but we know that is not factual. The 05s already were dyno'ing 15-20whp higher than the 03/04s, and now the 06s are dyno'ing even higher than the 05s. "

"If you are comparing an 03-04 VIII there is a big difference."

It would be interesting to take a poll and see what people have run stock on the different years cars. That would at least provide some sort of sample group rather than cherry-picking the best runs and comparing them.
you know what:
stock vs. stock the IX is a bit faster. with same bolt-on's the IX's are more than a bit faster.
i drove an 05 VIII for about 3 hours last year, before buying my IX. both are gsr's. the only difference i could feel is gearing and tiny bit more lag on the 05 (which i prefer, i love the turbo crossover, the stronger it is
)
at the end of they day, any Evo is awesome. the IX is the most current Evo, so it makes sense that it's a bit better than its predecessors (except maybe the VI
)
bah. i'm just typing to a wall here.
