I started putting Castrol synthetic in my old 4 cyl Toyota truck at around 60k miles. It sure made the engine seem quieter and smoother. There are a few places online that have some oil comparisons like :

Any good synthetic oil should be fine for the Evo. I'll stick with Mobil 1 for now because my oil changes are still free.

Just keep in mind that the site is an AMSOIL sponsered site. It MIGHT be biased.

Your engine will work fine with any quality synthetic oil.

My advice is to worry far less about the brand of oil going into your car, and focus more on the oil coming out. Blackstone Labs and other companies offers oil testing that can tell you if your leaking coolant, getting blowby, wearing your bearings too fast, etc and can predict catastophic failure before it happens. This can save you a lot of money and time, as well as give you piece of mind that your engine is healthy, instead of hoping it is by using a particular oil brand.

I can see that a lot of people have a biased opinions!! I use Mobil 1 and love it, but it may not work for everyone.

My question is has it been proven, complete FACT, that brand "A" Syn oil is better than Brand "B"?? I can't say that I've read too many reports that have told me that Royal Purple will increase the life of your engine, or make it perform way better. In fact I've never sen anything that substantiates any of the claims. It seems to me that the main reasons people buy different oils is a) bias and b)good marketting. That is if cost is also not part of the equation.

That doesn't take away from the fact that Royal Purple, Redline and the such are great oils. I just don't think performance or engine life wise, it will make a difference either way. I would imagine the only thing that varies from oil to oil is the distance you can go between oil changes.

Just my opinion!!!

marketing

I use mobil 1 because it's the cheapest for me ($22) and I do the oil change myself. From what I heard castrol synthetic is also very good. But dealerships usually change the oil they use, so next time you go you might not get castrol synthetic anymore. I heard it's best to just stick with one brand.

he pretty muched summed it up. i prefer royal purple just because i've heard good things about it, but have never seen any hard proof.

maybe i just like it cause it really is purple.

also the dealer said it was gonna be $25 for the oil change if i decide to bring in my own oil... wtf a filter and a crush washer is less than 10.... so it's 15 for labor.... stealerships... lol
