"Intercooler Clamps & Stock Boost Levels

Guys,

Do I need to Remove the Front Bumper to get at the Lower Intercooler Hose Clamps?? I'm thinking One or more might be Loose...THAT would explain my IX's LOWER Boost levels (Max of only 18-19psi)...

clamps

No, you do not need to remove the bumper. (unless the screw for the clamp is facing the front and you cant get to it. You will have to remove some of the lower belly pan.

Are you stock? If you are, then those boost levels seem normal as we don't peak as high as the 8's for some reason.

i'm sure you don't have to remove your bumper, but i did. i actually replaced all the clamps with t-bolt clamps. the only place i didn't change out is at the throttle body and at the UICP and one of the clamps on the blow off valve.

removing the bumper is pretty easy and i think its easier to get to the clamps with the bumper off. while the bumper is off, you can have fun looking at the interior...i know i did and learned about a lot of things hiding behind the bumper

forgot to add that i discovered that the stock clamps were not that tight. that explained why boost levels on my ix where not peaking as high after the break in. so either tightened the clamps and loc-tite or just replace with t-bolts.

Hey good info, yea I'm only peaking at 18-19PSI and from what I read it really should be 20-21, so I guess it's time to Remove that bumper!

I was able to replace all my clamps except 1 without removing the bumper.

i had to remove mine because the clamp screws were facing in a direction where i could not fit a screwdriver to loosen up the clamps.

I'd remove the bumper. you can do it without it, but you'd be better off doing it with the bumper off to ensure the best fitment/angle of the tubing. Plus you'll learn how to take the bumper on and off which is good to know.

How many t-clamps would need to replace all the stock clamps? Also what sizes would be needed? Also for those of you that have done this on an evo 9 that was running 18 psi what boost levels are you hitting now?

Thanks

There's a how-to on this.

I've been hitting 20 psi with the stock hose clamps. I plan to do a leakdown test before I make any effort to switch to t-clamps.
