metal scraping noise (very loud)

ok im reposting this in this forum because i didnt really get any replies on the other.....

ok my 03 evo has been making a whining noise for a few months now and for the past month it started getting worst, it now sounds like metal scraping and it is very loud "i can here it with my radio on full blast" i thought it was my transfer case at first but i took it to my friends shop and he put it up on the lift and said that the noise was comming from my carrier bearing. and the inide rubber peice is cracked and most of the grease came out....has anyone else heard of this problem? how much is it to fix this? and do you think i could get that fixed under warranty? thanks guys....

heres a pic of the bearing, this isnt mine...this is just a pic i found while searching.....mine has grease comming out of it...https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...iveshaft+whine

You might be able to get it fixed under warranty, but there are alot of questions that need to be answered. Now it says you have a IX and your talking about an VIII. Do you have both? As far as the warranty stuff. Do you have any mods? If so find out if the dealership is mod friendly. Also are you the 1st owner of the VIII? If not everything apparently get cut in half. Instead of 10years/100k you get 5years/50k. Stuff like that. Just need to do some reseach about your dealership situation.

I dont know about the evo but ones for a 3000gt are about 80 dollars.

If your crazy you can use a carbon fiber drive shaft and eliminate it but that runs the tune of 2 grand.

It should be part of the drivetrain, and therefore you get like 60K warranty on it.

Go to the dealer and get it done, no mods can affect that part. If they can't prove it, it is still under warranty.

The only thing I could say is that if it's lowered and you smoke a speed bump at full speed and rip it apart.. then it's your fault. Obviously this bearing decided to fail and lose all the grease. Hurry up before it damages your driveshaft as well.

Defiently get it fixed ASAP regardless. If your dealership is gonna be douche than you might not get it fixed under warranty do the fact that you have an after market clutch. Also just dont tell them that you have the clutch. They shouldnt have to pull the tranny to remove the driveshaft, but they might. I dont know much about a drive shaft install on an Evo. MOre than likely the only way they'll know you have the clutch is if they can tell the difference in pedal feel. Id just double check on the warranty cut thing since your not the 1st owner. Good luck.
