Evo to 335i
When comparing cars, like comparing anything, you need to have an understand of purpose. Why did you purchase the Evo? Why didn't you purchase a BMW in the first place? What is it you are looking for in a car at this time? Is it street performance, all surface performance, raw power, top speed, handling, luxury, comfort, reliability, resell value or anything else?
My recommendation, before jumping into a new ride, is to make a list of aspects of a car that are important to you. Then assign a value to each category (like saftey is worth 5pts and luxury is worth 3pts). Then create a comparison of both cars using research as a bases of your claims. +1 for the feature being better on one car and +0 for it not. Once you have your list and your values you can compute a personal car score. That score will tell you, based on your desires, which car is best for you.
Below I compared the two cars based on the data I was able to retrieve. I haven't included prices for the reason of car comparison alone. Price does play a huge role but we need to see which car is better first.

BMW 335i 0-60 [300hp, 300 lb ft]: 5.3 sec
Evolution IX 0-60 [286hp, 289 lb-ft]: 4.4 sec (ModernRacer.com - Stock)
Evolution IX 0-60 [286hp, 289 lb-ft]: 4.9 sec (Edmunds.com - Stock)
Score - Evolution IX: +1 | BWM 335i: +0

Drive Train
BMW 335: No all-wheel drive as of yet, just rear. Only the 230hp (0-60 in 6.2sec) 328i will have the option of xDrive all-wheel. (leftlanenews.com)
Evolution IX: All-Wheel drive w/ Active Center Differential - Standard
Score - Evoluition IX: +1 | BWM 335: +0

Interior
BMW 335i Interior: All the yummy things you'd want for a comferatable, luxurious ride.
Evolution IX Interior: Minus the name brand wheel and such it reminds me of my Civic DX interior. I wouldn't have it any other way
Score - Evoluition IX: +0 | BWM 335: +1

Final Score - Evolution IX: +2/3 | BWM 335i: +1/3

From this point you can assign a value to each category. If interior is more important than 0-60 (as it very well could be) then the weight of that might be enough to sway your mind seeing how the performance of the BWM will be satisfactory. Otherwise the Evo IX is your best bet for performance.
Personally, I purchased the Evo IX from a Rally Racing love perspective. I wanted a ride that was one of the best balanced cars on the road. The speed and handling of the Evo is like none other. The ACD allows for more flexible strategies of driving depending on road conditions, the suspension wont let the car flip, and the electronic control keeps your car moving steady. For me the Evolution IX takes the cake, hands down. However, I would like to add the new BWM335i to my collection some day. . . . when i'm able to start a collection

More luxury, nicer paint, more of a classical sports car. I hate to say it, but I love two cars more than my evo, the m3 that just stopped being made, and the 335i tt.
I'd imagine the new 335 to be very nice inside and out. A great Touring car. Nice on the highway and in a straight line. Very nice daily driver.
But if you plan on tracking the car... it probably doesn't come close to being anywhere near as fun as the evo.
It's 3600lb , kinda heavy.
EVO for me...
but the BMW would be great if i had money just laying around... for a nice daily driver.
So i guess it comes down to .. if you track the car... keep the evo
if you don't track the car... get the bmw 335i

on another subject anyone interested in buying a 330?
I would get both if I can afford it.
Depending on how well I can tolerate the noise and the ride I will stick with the evo. If I want something more luxurious then I would go with the 335 sedan/wagon.

Since there is a 20K price gap in the two vehicles, this thread isnt really fair. Ive driven a 335 and i love it more than the E46 M3. It's a great car, i wouldnt trade the evo for it, but if i could add it to the family i would. They are two different cars that do different things. The 335 is a much better daily driver, the Evo is a much better "fun" car

Never ever.
I just sold my E46 and will never own another BMW. Those cars cater to a COMPLETELY different owner in all aspects and I'm obviously not it.
Tom
How would you compare following these itens?
1- Around town
2- Straight line performance
3- Cornering performance
4- Autobahn
5- Mod
6- Dealer assistance
I think that the Evo gets the BMW at 3 and 5.

to those who are saying there is a $20,000 gap..you're off there.
the evo is around $30-35,000....given the different trims you can have.
the bargaining level on the 335i is very very good. i have called several dealerships and they are willing to do $800-1000 above INVOICE. when it is all said and done, the 335i with the stuff i want, which is navi and sports package came out to be $43,000...that's already including TTL. approx. $8,000 than what my evo cost me. the 335i is about $50,000 fully loaded if you want all that crap.
Why didn't you purchase a BMW in the first place?
to the guy who said his friend's 330i wasn't under warranty? why was that? BMW has the best warranty in the car industry. free oil changes, even covers brakes. the only thing it doesn't cover is tires.
i would understand if his car was out of the warranty period, in which case, it is very costly to repair. however i don't plan on owning this car for more than 50,000 miles or 4 years since i get bored of cars very fast.
the evo is a great car, i just wish i can drive it in peace and not be messed with by ricers and cops while i'm driving with the flow of other cars.
