Evo to 335i
The car is under rated from the factory. There have been many dyno runs proving this and so the gains are actually not any greater than those you'd get on any other turbo car.
As a former owner of a biturbo S4, I know what this sort of set up is like to tune. The snails are very small and making the jump to bigger ones is like a 10k proposition (without 4k for turbo back exhaust, new brakes, etc.) I can't imagine the 335 will be any cheaper than this and will most likely be more expensive.
I wouldn't chip this car until it has shown its turbos and engine are reliable as a BMW motor or new turbos is going to cost major cash.
Also, the 335 needs new tires off the lot. These aren't covered by maintenece because you'd be replacing the crappy run flats with real performance tires.
The 335 is nice but waaay over-hyped on the internets.

They were making over 400hp but they couldn't put out a 3 that was faster then the M, so they detuned it. They still are using the same parts on the car tho, just detuned. I have to say they have some potential.

Never had the pleasure of driving anything M5 sadly, but no dispute that they make some awsome machinery,
If I had the loot to keep the evo AND purchase a RWD luxury sedan I'd be looking in the direction of a used E55 just for the burnouts.
In reality though, I have no loot and I suck at driving RWD cars, I proved that by owning an s2000 for a couple years. I'll stay evo unless they come out with a turbo xi and rule WRC for a few years

The fact that it is a twin turboed engine blows my mind. I can't believe i'm driving one. I didn't get the manual because the automatic is probably quicker. The 6 speed Auto in this car is about the best auto i have ever used. It is lightning quick on shifts, just as fast or even then you can shift with a manual and without making a mistake. Also, you pull down to shift, not push up, which is more of a natural feel. The braking is better then my EVO i must say. It handles very well but it's extremely quiet inside (like a lexus). The car is very quick off the line because you get instant torque @ 1400 rpm and full hp and torque @ 2000 rpm!
Yes it's a detuned engine only running 8 psi. Just a reflash really awakens this monster! If you're looking for a car that does everything well, (speed, handling, room, luxurious, mod happy (twin turbo)..) this car is for you!
and still get 29 mph on the highway... for you AWD people, you can get that also next year!

Ever read the BMWCCA magazine "Roundel"? It ain't much better, and prices are crazy for service compared to Mitsu dealers, although on par the techs are probably better trained. BTW, BMWCCA is a great club to belong to, BMW owner or not. It's a great way to get in on track days. And at least in our local club, the people are pretty decent individuals.
No I was not...look it up....there is no longer a german or japanese manufacturer who currently offers an inline 6 engine in production cars other than the BMW München.. you should know that, you had an E46 with a S54 motor?

In response to going from an evo to a 335 I would say no to that. Even though they are totally different I think the only step into BMW I would take is into a e46 M3. Otherwise I would rather stick with the evo/wrx/s2000 vehicles.
this is interesting, because i went from a bimmer to an evo and i am very glad with my decision, because i had a 330Ci, and it just wasnt pleasing me, too slow, stuff was breaking, constantly goin to dealership to get it fixed, i believe you just pay for the name, and the evo is a great car and you get everything for your penny, keep the evo, cuz i guarantee you that after just a short while, you are going to make plenty trips to the stealership to get stuff fixed!!!
I heard the 335 TT is a beast. Well at least on paper it is. How much does it weigh though? And BMW's AWD system is DOO DOO compared to the EVO's. My personal opinion is you will have ALOT more fun modding an EVO then a BMW. Plus GERMAN parts are MADDDDDD EXPENSIVE.
For SCCA autocrossing, for 2007 the 335i is in the same stock class as the Mustang and the Camaro (F Stock), and those in the know don't think it will be competitive with the American iron next year.
I think that says a lot...
