some of u guys need to wait a bit longer and see how the 335i really responds to mods. i'm not doubting Vishnu, but so far he's one of the very few people producing data for the 335i IIRC.

$3000 for 330whp/350wtq....it'd take the IX less than $2000 to have more (yes i know the Evo will need more whp to take a 335i on the highway) - at the entry level for mods at least, at this point, it seems the Evo isn't exactly falling behind

i guess if u guys are into comfy/luxurious interior, the 335i is a good choice. from a performance standpoint the Evo still has the edge in every aspect _at this point_.

as for getting profiled by cops.....i've never been pulled over and gotten hassled randomly. i'm almost sure it's just how u drive the car. i didnt get pulled over when i had my mr2, which had pretty loud exhausts and a BOV, or my integra gsr with a loud catback, or my s2000...
and you live in diamond bar?! you mustve been lucky.

my friend has a white evo, got pulled over for having soath on his rear bumper so the cop thought he was running illegal exhaust. got sent to the ref...went back to stock, pass the test but the ref said ticket wasn't correctable. 3-4 months later, hes still trying to fight it.

another turn off is the random mobile smog stations being put up through out socal now. they are pulling over "random" cars to see if its emission friendly, but we know it isnt really 'random' at all..

About 2 months ago I went to the dealer to possibly buy one 335I(first unit to be sold in Tucson), unfortunately they only want it to pay me $23500 for my Evo 8 MR with only 15000 miles.

I refused the deal. Good car though.

If the noise and ride is a problem then just get new tires. The stock Advans ride terrible.

thanks.

To add to this thread....

my buddy just bought an exhaust for his M3 for.....

7 grand........

if high-end parts for the 335 are anywhere near that kind of pricing I feel very bad for 335 owners who want to mod.

Blah, whatever this thread was too random to begin with.

I'm gonna start a "Would you take a modified Veyron over a stock Evo I?" thread now....

I just bought a 335i (black) and I own an EVO RS IX. The BMW is incredible.
TwinTurbo, with just a FLASH or Piggyback 65 ~ 70 whp! This is the Vishnu XEDE Stage I. (i don't think some of you guys like Vishnu on here from what i heard...) And they have a 100 WHP kit from Dynocomp! I already timed the car in the 13.30s with a 0 - 60 of 4.85 stock Automatic 6 Sedan! Another guy on Dragtimes got his Automatic couple in the 13.30s also... It handles and brakes very well! Anyway, Vishnu posted a video of the car with Stage I and it did 0 - 60 right at 4 seconds and 0 - 100 around 9 seconds (that's pretty impressive).
I think the car will have some incredible MOD potential. Many companies are working on it already!

I wouldn't want to MOD any bmw because once the car is flashed the warranty is gone.

I am not saying the 335i can't handle boltons but there could potentially be a weak-link in the car with that much power, and fixing it wouldn't be cheap.

Parts for german cars are usually much more expensive when compared to jap/dom, and these add up after your 45k free maintenance plan has ended. Even "bargain" shopping over the internet can be expensive for some routine basic maintenance from pelican bmw or wherever you get your parts from. German cars usually have quirks like broken window actuators, the pixels in lcd screens failing, etc., but the fit and finish and overall ride quality is amazing imo.

With an evo the parts and modifications have been in USA for the last three years, so most know what to do and what not to do. Also, there is a huge aftermarket community, that can fix your broken transmissions/tc's/motors, etc. I don't see that with the new 335i.

Either way its a great car, enjoy it.

BMWs in general bore me to tears. That and every b*tch I know seems to have a 3 series. Nice cars for people that that need to maintain an upper middle class air of sucsess and say that they "like to drive".

I think there is still too much of a bias in this forum to really admit how great the 335i is. I mean even our evos dun get 65-70 whp after just a tune. If I had the money to buy a 335i in stock form, a custom tune with a just a full turbo back and perhaps a mbc would net around 330 whp (i'm guesstimating), aside from the heightened base price, it is every bit as modible as an evo to the mid 300s. And yes the evo handles better on the track but keep in mind that only a very small fraction of evo owners track the car in the first place. For every modded evo you see, you'll see maybe 4 or 5 stock ones. And then even a smaller fraction of that atually track the car on a regular basis. The only question would be if your willing to shell out the extra 10 grand (if you take the MRs base price) for the bmw. If you had the capital then you can't help but say yes because it would be financially similiar to buyin an evo.
Let's see, 5 years of tire replacements on the evo = at least 3000 dollars if you want any set thats decent and even that figure is low imo. (900 a set for michelin pilot sports, 900 for advans, 700 for RA1s, and to say that you'd only need 3 sets in 5 years is an underestimation if you were take in to account possible nails in tires and all that other good stuff.
Then we get on to the issue of brakes, oil changes. About a 1000 to replace breakpads in 5 years. Thats again a moderate number especially for the small fraction of people that like to track.
Oil changes for me are 60 bucks a pop for mobile one. If we are to pretend that we only drive our cars for 10,000 miles a year, then oil changes would cost us roughly 600 dollars in five years. ( except for some lucky late 05 owners)
Then we get into service charges..... 250, for 10,000, 250 for 20,000, 450 for 30,000, 250 for 40,000, 250 for 50,000, 500 for 60,000, (this is what my mitsu dealer goes by).
DON'T FORGET OUR AWESOME STOCK CLUTCH. AT LEAST ONE CHANGE in those five years for like 1000 bucks per change.

Add all them numbers up and you get a moderate estimate of 7 grand or so....
So if i had 40,000 grand to plop down on a car that was to be a "fun" daily driver and I cared about interior AND modibility. I would definitely get the 335i as the free maintenance makes up for a large portion of the extra cost over the next 5 years.

Try an E60 M5 if you get the chance, it's like no other car BMW has ever built.

And if you drive the same in the 335i, you're gonna pay about the same as the Evo (possibly without as many clutches)

All of that stuff will wear out just as fast on the BMW.

Don't believe everything you see on Top Gear as being the literal truth.

Like Everyone elses says, they are completelty too different cars. But me personaly if it would be an even trade, one evo for one BMW 335I I would do it. Then i would sell the 335I and buy an evo and Use the rest of the money to mod it. I like my Evo alot, but I could switch to a BMW, my parents love Bimmers and they have like 3. I have already decided after i give up the Evo I am Getting a BMW, who knows what kinda BMWs there will be in several years?
