i am interested in knowing what the build date was on your sons car so that i can compare mine. i would rather spend the money to upgrade that part of my engine before it happens, rather than wait and have it blow up on me. you guys seem to think it is related to a bearing or shaft, can someone clarify this. thanks.

good luck with the car man, that sucks.!!!!!!!!!!! Mitsubishi sucks as a company! and i agree that this is a crappy attempt by mitsu to save money, its no secret that the company is in trouble!! i personally never intended to use my warranty when i bought the car, the rep began touting their service dept, i stopped him mid sentence and said, "you will never see me or my car again, i can assure you of that!" i do my own repairs, anything major i take it to quantum racing, i won't put another factory part on this car anyway, if it breaks i am upgrading that part. so they can read this all they want, VOID MY WARRANTY, you cheapskates! if i wanted to use my warranty i would have left it stock till 36,000 miles.

point is this is a high maintenance race car, it isn't cheap and i never assumed it would be.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU FIGHTING I HOPE YOU STICK IT TO THEM GOOD!!!!

mitsubishi manufactures the evo but if you race they cannot be your manufacturer teamworks. you have to have the money to back it up, your racing hobby.

I suspect a bad batch of balance shafts bearings went in some motors.
Production date: 9/22/2003

Picked up the repaired Evo from the dealer this evening. Good to have the car back.

I didn't realize when I bought my car last April that I would have to change out tires and clutch with in a year. I may have waited on something better to come along like the R32.

I don't get it. Mitsubishi KNOWS that it sells EVOs to the 1/100 % of the population that wants all-out performance, and who mod and track their car. So they target the only kind of customer who would buy an EVO with warranty cancellation. Great marketing strategy.

The initial challenge here will be the definition of racing. Again, it appears Mitsubishi is making up new warranty restrictions (i.e. any timed event) as they go as a cost saving strategy. Mitsubishi chose not to defiine racing and I will be very surprised if the affected owners do not prevail.

So was it covered? Or did you have to pay?

If your running a stock class in Solo2, warranty work should not be an issue. It's less of a strain on the car than daily driving.

For those who bought a performance car and don't understand that that means you will be replacing oil, pads, tires, brake fluid, driveline fluids, gas, etc, much more frequently and hence it will be more expensive, you need to get a clue. You aren't going to find much of a better performance car especially a performance sedan than the Evo, period.

For those who didn't or still don't undertstand this, why did you get a performance car in the first place? To commute to and from work or, for the kiddies, school? What a waste.

Time to go to the Indy race. I'll ask the teams there if Honda, Chevy, Ford warranty their motors if they grenade at 230mph..

Not covered yet. It will take some time to go through the arbitration process.

Mister2zX3 is right, if you bought this car thinking it would be like any other car when it came to repairs, you obviously dilluted yourself! it is a limited edition rally car from japan, just that statement alone should tell you that repairs will be expensive and parts ordered from afar. i never would have bought this car if i didn't have a high paying job, access to emergency funds, or a know-how of general car maintenance.

you have three choices with this car:1. leave it stock and use warranty(no fun and good luck))
2. modify it and have alarge bank roll to fund repairs
3. Modify it and learn how to do as much as you can on your own (must still have large bankroll available)

i have a friend with an evo, he is in the military and has a strict pay level, he is on his third clutch at 20,000 miles, it is difficult for him to keep up with the maintenance, but he loves the car so much that he is willing to live on ramen noodle soup to pay for repairs.

i on the other hand have been very fortunate to have inherited a sum of money as well as being a financial planner making six figures, i bought this car as a toy (it is not a practical car) and knew exactly how expensive it could be, i have taken some basic engine repair classes to offset some repair costs, but the point is that this car is not a cheap fix.

i realize that many of you depend on your warranty to save your a**, and for you i am very sorry, and am rooting hard for you to win your cases against mitsubishi, it just sucks when a huge multi-national company takes advantage of people who just happen to love a car.

those of you who are having problems with your cars, please take the time to visit the manufactured date vs. car problems thread in the drivetrain, etc.. forum i am pooling the complaints and correlating them to the dates of build to look for obvious patterns, a bad batch of rotors, a bad batch of clutches. this info will be useful to people involved in lawsuits as well as prospective buyers and new owners. thanks, and GOOD LUCK YOU GUYS!

I was thinking (always dangerous) and with the conversations you have had with your dealership I think you have an "implied" warranty with that dealership. It doesn't matter what Mitsu corp. does here, the dearership basically OK'd your intended use of the car. This may be a way to attack the problem too.

Just as any business can make deals with their customers for goods and services, this dealership accepted your use of the vehicle (even assume stock form) for autocross purposes. If it fails during that use they pay, like that atty said in an earlier post, they made the contract, they should have said you can't do autox's and expect the car to hold up, but they didn't.

Thanks Stockfornow. All things considered, I'm going to start with arbitration with MMNA. The dealer has been excellent. The issue is with Mitsubishi, not with the dealer.

Good luck with everything. I went to look for my weight and production date and don't even have the sticker! The report I got from my dealership shows (I think) an 09/24/2003 build date, so obviously I am extremely concerned. It does show an Open Recall that was issued 05/20/04 which I think may be for the sticker problem.
Thanks for this discussion - keep us updated, and again, Good Luck.
