I was considering buying an evo... I no longer am.
While I agree that a warranty is not a racing sponsorship, perhaps mitsu should warranty their cars by torque/seconds or WOT events instead of years / mileage.
I find the most disturbing part to be that they are actively voiding warranties before any service claims are made. That's just desperate.
Anywho... makes an S13 with an SR seem like a 'reasonable' alternative if not quite as able. At least there are no expectations of warranties.
I wish you all the best of luck. I'm sure when push comes to shove they will be hard-pressed to prove your damages are due to autocrosses.

this warranty stuff has gotten way outta hand... so instead of wasting my time with mitsu i bought a new toyota. if mitsu decides to get its act together MAYBE i'll consider purchasing an MR in a couple years.

Well...I too have been considering buying an Evo8.....maybe not.
I love SCCA Solo2. From 1999-2002, I raced Solo2 (or comaparable events) at least once a month in an Integra Type-R. The only mod was Springs. Guess what? All that "abuse" (as some of you call it), and NO PROBLEMS with the car.
I think
just has a S H I T T Y product. Regardless of warranty or not...a stock EVO shouldn't break during a standard Auto-X. (Brakes and clutches not included
)
Maybe I should buy another Integra Type-R (1998). At least I know I won't be walking home.

Mitsu *HAS* shot them selves in the foot BIG TIME with this. This thread is being laughed at by so many other car forums all over the net. Everyone out there posting about deciding between some other car and an Evo has now decided against the Evo becuase of Mitsu's complete lack of customer care.
Way to go Mitsu.
Now the only people you are goign to be able to get rid of Evos in the US to those who are going to race their evo seriously and take the vehicle as is and with full awareness that once sold you're on your own. But without any contingency, that interest shrinks..
Maybe this is how a japanese auto manufacturer commits hari kari.. that would suit the disgraced officials.

I can't wait until these cars are worth as much as 1G DSM's so I can buy one. I could be an owner as soon as next year!!!
All kidding aside, the battle will easily be won in court, although court is a hassle and expensive with missed work et cetera. Mitsubishi failed to define racing in their warranty and any judge won't rule in favor of them.

I think more than the courts, the battle will be won in the press. I've emailed the major auto magazines pointing them to this thread. I don't know if it will do any good. Perhaps if more people email the auto mags, they will report on it. In the long run, it will be best for comsumers and for
.

You may want to define best for consumers. If you mean finding a cheap used Evo, ok that I guess is a benefit to some. But when the Evo is made to look like a horrible car becuase Mitsu has no customer care, they can pull the car from the market in attempts to remove themselves from the public blemish. I personally would prefer it not become a huger public ordeal, they always leave people and business looking bad which take a long time to recover from, fix their lack of customer care and continue to bring great cars to market like the Evo. I prefer a new car with good, nice, friendly customer care. I don't care too much for a used beat up car that just happens to be dirt cheap. They need to fix this pronto, but it may already be too late, lots of people on the net are following it, primarily the demogrpahics of potential Evo purchasers and if this shows up in a few publications, they're screwed. Subaru's adding a SCCA membership in the car was great PR, this is the complete opposite.

I made the point I did though because I've been involved with Solo2 for some years now and it's not uncommon at all for us to co-drive eachother's cars. I can't see how Mitsu can look at an entry list that merely says "Joe Blow, red Evo" and then define you as guilty. It's perfectly normal to have several people driving one car at the same event. If all of them happen to own red Evos are they going to deny everyone's warranty? Shouldn't they only deny the warranty of the car that was actually competing? In that case how do they know which car was actually competing? They don't.
there is another possibility. Mits and the Evo will die in the USA, and we will all have very rare cars. A very likely scenario. The chances of mitsubishi surviving in the US market are probably less that 40% at this point, and frankly, I could give a damn. They are a horrible company that only make one vehicle worth purchasing. Good riddance for all I care. There will alwys be parts available, and if you mod, figure you've lost your warranty at that point with any manufacturer, magnusen-moss be damned. The company is always going to have deeper pockets than individual customers in any legal action. They count on us being scared off by the threat of warranty claim denials.
