Warranty Issues <Mega Merge>
windshield is not under warranty, I tried already, have to fork out almost $300 to have mine replaced, and worst, Evo rearview mirror have a different mounting bracket than regular lancer, so have to go get a new mirror after the windshield replacement, may be try asked about the mounting bracket before getting it replaced.
I don't have comprehensive coverage... I probably should add that, in case my car gets stolen or vandalized. Anyway they won't cover it even if I add it now, since they'll come out to inspect the car, and they'll see the crack.
Some insurance companies have different coverage on windshields, so your deductible is much lower for the windshield only. Some auto glass places may also work with you so you don't pay any deductible to get your windshield repaired/ replaced, that is if your insurance covers it.
Cracks normally start from a stone chip in the windshield. With my insurance they repair the chips for free. I have had good luck with that method. I think I have had three of them done on my Evo and have had no problem with them since. I know this won't help now but might in the future.
my insurance offers 0 deductable glass coverage..but it varies from state to state with them. when i lived in AZ, i had it. back in ohio, i dont. pretty gay. do you own your car outright? if you dont, dont you HAVE to have comprehensive?? and yes, you're right, you should have it regardless. good luck with it
I replaced the front windshield on my 05 MR due to a rock chip causing a crack to develop. I had a local shop do mine for $175 and they took care of the rear view mirror bracket also. When I was doing research, I read somewhere that the windshield from the Lancer is similar to the EVO's, anyone know if this is true?

I have also heard that new car manufacturers have designed the windshield to be a part of the car's structural rigidity, maybe that's why it's $500+ from safelite.com? They priced the windshield on my 95 Previa at around $250, and the Previa's windshield is much bigger and harder to install. So I would suspect the difference in price is probably due to the glass material, as the EVO's windshield has to be stronger?
If that's the case, has anyone have any bad experience with cheaper replacements that cost less than $300 or so?
