dealers cannot "void your entire warranty" they can only refuse a claim against it due to an after market part being the fault.

My buddy has intake, full 3 inch turboback, EBC, Buschar flash and got his EVO transfer case warrantied and his brake master cylinder warrantied.

I'm still pissed at myself that I didn't fork over the extra money and get the HID's when I purchased my EVO IX. I rode in my buddies EVO IX SE and WOW what a difference at night, it's incredible.

does anyone kno where we can find like a write up of this law on the net?? and why are all these mitsu dealers trying to void warranties for the stupidest stuff?? its like the crackdown in california right now everyone is getting in troble for mods cops are makin people pop hoods for having tinted windows. i dont even kno if that was irrelevant lol

Okay, I just avoided the whole thing - I went back to the dealer today and swapped my standard IX for an MR SE - so now I have the HIDs (plus all the other goodies!) When I got there I managed to speak to the sales manager (cool guy) and the service manager, and they actually agreed to let me fit aftermarket HIDs and keep the warranty. The problem is I'd have to keep going to the same dealer to ensure that the warranty stays in effect (so if I moved, I'd be out of luck). So I just decided to upgrade and they let me give the IX back (with 270 miles on it!).

Thanks!

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...s/warranty.htm

That link details the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Thanks!

It's rather a shame that you basically rewarded their scare tactics by buying a new car from them.

oil change with mods = voided warranty?

If I simply take my evo in to the dealership with mods for just an oil change + tire rotation and what not. And they see I have a test pipe, exhaust intake etc. Do they have the right to void my warranty...? Or do you have to actually go in with a problem in order for them to void the warranty?

It's clearly up to the dealership. If they don't void your warranty, they could possibly use against you in the future. But you my friend are lucky because you live in socal and have access to go to a few mod friendly dealerships (southcoast mitsu).

My advice is to simply do it yourself. There is nothing to an oil change and rotating your tires is just a matter of jacking up your vehicle one side at a time. This will alleviate any of your worries about warranty voiding.
