Weird oil light problem

So, I got my oil changed the other day by a place that has done it a few times before. New filter and crush gasket.

The other day I noticed my oil light came on. I thought that's weird, and turned off the car. Took out the dipstick, rubbed it off with a piece of scrp paper and checked my oil level. Seemed perfect. Looked underneath the car. There was a little bit of oil on the outside of the filter, but that could have been from when they changed it. Oil light went off when I restarted the car.

Yesterday, I was waiting at a stoplight on a street with a steep incline (Laurel Canyon Road for you LA people). The oil light was flickering with the lope of the cams. Once I revved the motor, the light turned off (like immediately). Sometimes the idle will fall pretty far with the new cams, but I have no idea what it could be. It only started doing this (that I noticed) since the oil change. Oil was changed with Mobil 1.

Any ideas?

maybe use 5w-30w
since the oil is thinner, it can reach the cams, what oil you using btw

Sounds like oil pressure is low.

Stop driving your car! Find out what's going on before it's too late. Oil light is nothing to mess around with

Do you have an IX?

A friend of mine just starting having this issue when he AutoX's. But he's got a stock car.

It has to do with oil pressure. The light reads directly from the oil pressure, doesn't go through the ECU at all. He's going to try and increase his idle rpms to see if that helps, since it seems to help when he revs the engine up a little.

My car is an Evo 8. 57,000 miles. I will check for oil leaks tonight. It seemed yesterday that it was definitely tied to RPMs, because when I revved it it went away. Don't know if the steep incline cause the engine to read low. I also have a catch can...maybe it's full, and the crankcase can't vent? Oil light has not come on since. I will get this looked at ASAP.
