And this, folks, is why import car drivers get such a bad name. Everyone seems to now be a checkbook racer. "Stage 3" this and "Level 4" that. What ever happened to people actually knowing what they were doing and why they were doing it? I miss the days of MDSOG, the Digest, and DSMTrader. Well, I didn't like Trader too much after I got screwed over by a guy in TN and had to go "collect" but whatever.

I'm bias...
I personally dont like FWDs ...especially with any intentions of big hp numbers... my wife has a corolla which is FWD and thats ok, because its just a commuter car that gets good gas milage... maybe find a clean 3rd gen eclipse GSX

.....umm maybe because SRT-4s do have a stage 3 (Mopar) upgrade path and so does AMS and these paths are good paths to follow (even domestic guys have upgrade paths)

Oh noes! You must be kidding!

What I mean is, even the most respected shops out there are now forced to dumb down their product line to appeal to the drones out there that played a little too much Gran Turismo and now expect everything to be done in "stages" of upgrade paths.

Why not just modify YOUR car to YOUR level of performance. Enough with this "stage eleventeen" garbage. It's stupid jargon that has no place except to keep the checkbook racers happy. I guess at the end of the day they are the ones paying the bills, though. A wise man once said: "A fool and his money are soon parted."

75% of the Evolution guys on here came from the Honda world or other import garbage scene. It seems the fastest Evolutions are coming from guys who were former DSMers, or who wrote the check to sombody who knows how to get power from a 4G63. Hell, half of the threads on these forums are bull**** *** ricer questions, or my favorite, the "help me spend my money" thread. I can't wait untill these cars get down in price enough for the real enthusiasts to start getting their hands on them.

I would say that depends on what your taste is... When you put the two side by side, the Evo is aught to be the ONE! I think the SRT-4 is pretty quick too but the looks of that car, I can't see myself in it. If you like to see places, look somewhere that is not in your state. Search at least 500 miles away and you should find something in your price range. I got mine with 31k for $24600 locally but I'm in Wisconsin. Good Luck and hope you choose the right one!

I am interested to hear what you classify an evo as? a 4 door grocery getter? evo was produced for the wrc... right? Maybe I am wrong there but im pretty sure I got that one figured out right.

Most times when you race people, you don't roll down your window and say hey, I have 500 whp, what do you have?! Not so much...

Im just saying that the SRT4 is CHEAP! Cheap brakes, cheap seats, Cheap interior, although the evo's interior is not much better other than the recaro's.

look at what is more stable when you get into the higher horsepower levels between the two cars.

Have you fella's ever seen the AMS Neon? By far one of the fastest in a drag race neons I have seen to date. Look at the number of evo's in the mid 10's, heck look at the amount in the 9's at this point.

I think the STI and the EVO are both street legal race cars in their own right, very much so compared to most of the other cars on the street.

I don't know to many evo owners that come to the board saying they wish they would have bought an SRT4, We do see however a lot of SRT4 owners switching over to the evo my friend.

You guys misunderstood my comment about the stages.... Yes I did race a few stage 3 neons but that is Mopars crap not mine. You can thank MOPAR for running stages..

My point is that a neon is only going to go so fast at mid 10's is the fastest that I have seen to date, NOT SAYING there is not one faster but AMS does things the right way. That car was fully built and it was hittin mid 10's on slicks....

Evo's are now in the mid 8's working on low 8's I would be SHOCKED and AMAZED if we see an SRT4 in the 9's low 9's or 8's.

You can only modify a Neon to the point where it's not going to go any faster.. Then you look at the advantage on a time trial, awd takes over hands down!!

I'm going to say it would be classified as a sports car not a race car. The AMS Evo is a purpose built race car, not for the street. On the other hand, when Mitsubishi builds the Evolution to sell you, regardless what you choose to do with it, it is NOT a race car. This goes for any production vehicle.

Most times when you race people, you don't roll down your window and say hey, I have 500 whp, what do you have?! Not so much...
Your right. Just like when your going down the road and you are about to race, you don't say, "wait, hold on and stop, we have to go from a dig".

Im just saying that the SRT4 is CHEAP! Cheap brakes, cheap seats, Cheap interior, although the evo's interior is not much better other than the recaro's.
Yeah, I don't really think the Evo guys need to complain about cheapness, anybody who has been inside an STi knows that the Evolution has an extremely cheap feeling and looking interior (your guy's factory CD player looks like one of those $59.99 Lightning Audio specials, the MR's guages look slightly better than the Sunpro ones at Advance Autoparts, and lets not forget your guys' "Lancer" guage ). So lets not get into the cheap thing. You guys have nicer seats, and thats about it.

Have you fella's ever seen the AMS Neon? By far one of the fastest in a drag race neons I have seen to date. Look at the number of evo's in the mid 10's, heck look at the amount in the 9's at this point.
The SRT-4 is FWD, of course it isn't going to ET worth a crap. What does than mean? So we have two cars, a FWD car and an AWD car. The FWD is a 12 second car, and the AWD is a 11 second car. But the FWD car traps at 128mph, and the AWD 120mph. Basicly what that means is, on the street, in a real race you will probably get into, the FWD car will pull the AWD car nasty. It seems that alot of you fail to understand this.

I think the STI and the EVO are both street legal race cars in their own right, very much so compared to most of the other cars on the street.
I think you've never been in a real race car, sir. No offense.

both are good cars... yes the evo is better but thats why its like 10k more.

Z06 guys would say the exact same thing about the evo as the evo guys are saying about the SRT4.

If you have the $$ to play, get the evo. If you dont get the SRT4...

BOTH ARE GOOD CARS

I'm also looking to buy an Evo 8 for no more than 20k with low miles. Atleast you have some offers in Cali, there is no Evo being sold within 500 miles from here (LA).

I originally wanted to either get a RSX type-S or an Evo. I decided to get the Evo because I want it more. This will be my first "real" car too.
