annoying rattle

ok so ive got this rattle at 4k and above which is quite annoying and makes my car sound like its a tin can. i figured it was a heat shield so i removed all of them downpipe back and its still there.i cant seem to locate this noise but i hate it! anyone ever had a similar situation that was something else? the only heat shields i left was the long one running above the driveshaft and the ones on the manifold and o2 housing

I had two - one was an exhaust heatshield. The other was actually my front bumper. I had removed it to put on a new IC and had only put back on the 4-5 pieces required to hold it in place and never put back on the rest. When I got going fast enough the wind would make it vibrate just enough and it would rub on the crash beam at this weird frequency making me think there was something rattling. I know it sounds weird but I tightened it all up and it went away.

Does it do it while stationary in your garage or only under load? Have you thought of having someone else hold it at 4k and you look around (assuming it's happening in Neutral)?

check door panels, exhaust hangers things as simple as a rear seatbelt click falling under the seat and touching metal. Mine did that, and when my exhaust vibrated the car, my seatbelts were so annoying... I have sooo many rattles now, i just turn the music up haha

Check the shields around the gas tank.

I had the same issues with de accel noise and wound up upgrading my rear diff and transfer case till I realized when I shoved some shop towels between the tank and the shields that the noises went away.

I have something rattling under my dash while I drive. The noise irritates the crap out of me. But I had the shield under the hood vent rattle on me before.

Its very hard to track down some rattles and squeaks as you already know.Best way is to drive with a passenger and let them try and pin point where its coming from, this way you can just concentrate on driving and getting the rattle to stay there while they listen for it a general direction from where its coming from. Good luck.I guess iwas very lucky as i never had one rattle in either of my two Evo,s,an 03 modded, and an 06 BR350.

I had this really annoying rattle after I put my clutch in. It was so bad I almost couldn't drive the car. I just wasn't enjoyable. So, disappointing with this embarrassing rattle I couldn't find.

I looked several times for the culprit until I got fed up. I jacked it up and got under the car looking around everywhere.

What I finally found is a loose bolt on the brace that runs between the lower control arms under the car on the front suspension. One of the bolts had probably not been tightened enough when I put it back together after the clutch swap. Shortly after it worked itself loose and started to rattle. Anyway Check that brace. I've seen other threads on this forum about people having loose or stripped bolts down there. It's one of the lowest points on the car and it scraps the ground on occasion especially if you're lowered. This can contribute to it possibly being loose.

would check those braces, seem to be a problem with upgraded downpipes. ive seen some people put some spacers inbetween the braces and the frame to give them more clearance from their upgrades downpipes

Please tell us what mods you have? Aftermarket exhaust or stock?

You didnt mention where exactly is this rattle noise coming from? Does it happen in stand still neutral or when driving only? We need more imput...

I had a rattle noise due to the downpipe o2 bung bolt coming loose. If you have a plugged bung, check that out.

Also check for clearance with your downpipe. Yank on it to check if its touching the tiebar braces, or even your oil pan etc...
