HKS SSQV Fluttering, searched.

I searched alot, and read several other forums' posts on the topic, but no one seems to have a solid answer on how to fix it.

First off, the car is tuned for SD, so it's not 'rice' as a lot of people think... that and the SSQV is a great BOV (when it works right lol).

And just in case everyone/anyone isn't privvy to the fluttering I am speaking of, at part throttle and rolling into boost, it makes a chuffing sound, like its trying to blow off, but it wont. Also, at max boost in 2nd gear, it sounds like its slow to open, causing the blow off event to take a few seconds as opposed to being instantaneous.

It's not compressor surge, but I'm sure it could cause it.

Has there been a documented fix for this, a proven one? I have a TiAl waiting to go on, but I need a new UICP first, and that could be a couple weeks out, what with Xmas coming up, but I still want to make the HKS work right in the mean time. Any ideas? I searched but found nothing concrete.

Well as long as the BOV is recirculating it should be fine. The spring may be a bit too loose/stiff. When my car was stock and just had a filter kit it had some compressor surge with stock setup. You can't hear it with stock airbox but it's there. So I just made it a habit to let off the throttle immediately. So either you're driving poorly or the current spring used is too loose/stiff. Though what ever you're doing make sure bov is recirculating since the sensor adds fuel depending on how much air it reads.

If the issue only occurs under boost check all your boost/vaccum lines as well.

why would he need the BOV to recirculate when he stated that he is running speed density?

Heh, yeah, I'm running SD, so I don't need to recirc.

It's exceptionally annoying, and I know there has to be a way to fix it. One How to thread I found said that using a vac nipple from the LICP would fix it, but I fail to see how.

I know something isn't right, because I pulled the SSQV off of my Mazdaspeed3 for temp use on the Evo, and it never did it on the MS3.

Fit the vacuum line directly from the manifold to the nipple of the BOV. Don't tee off that line, and use as short of a line as possible. This is what worked for me.

Does line diameter matter? I'm wondering if I'm using too big of a vac line (3/16).

^As long as its nice and snug on both ends (BOV nipple and manifold), it shouldn't be a problem.

I think every BOV will do the same thing. Too much load and not enough RPMs. If you're going into boost you need to keep your foot in it. I had an HKS SSQV (VTA) before moving to a synapse recirculated valve. They both to the same thing, it was more severe in the HKS valve.
