After tanking, machining, painting, etc.... There is no difference between a 100k block and a 30k block
im wondering if the abuse put on a block has any effect on the structure and durablility of the metal in the block?

No it would not.Block is worn and will need machine work with oversize pistons.I dont want to hear car was babied 100k miles its an evo a performance car bought by gear heads so its been beaten on.Cylinder head has nothing to do if block is good or not. If(if it had less mileage) you do drop in rods and pistons you might as well have your head checked out have valves re lapped, check for straightness etc.Again at that mileage i would do full build.

With an iron block like the evo I wouldnt think so. Could be wrong but I plan to use my block unless I launch a rod through it of course. She's at 120k about now. I def will have it fully machined the right way. Think about all the old 60's motors that get overhauled.

Actually this usually makes them stronger. Back in the older days BMW used to go get seasoned blocks out of junkyards to turn into their F1 engines.

I wouldnt do just drop in pistons at this point though, i'd call the piston manufacturer, get the measurements on the pistons and their recommended Piston-wall clearance and see if you have enough room to hone, some forged pistons I've seen in the honda world required .002 more clearance than the stock bore. so you can keep the stock bore and have a decent hone job (not just glaze breaking)

so best bet find the exact pistons you want (dont buy just yet), get the measurements and piston/wall clearance recommendation from the piston manufacturer, take your block apart, bring it to a machine shop and see how much room you have to play with before having to buy .020 over pistons

The reason seasoned blocks are stronger is because of all the heat cycles they go through. The constant heating up and cooling down strengthens the metal.

Depends on the condition of your head and other components to the motor.. Cams, things like that.

100K the bores wont be as straight as they should be and you will just be asking for trouble.

You can do it once and do it right.

Or you can risk it and see if your luck holds out.

Mine did not.
