Clunking Noise from a Start... Please help!

I have searched the forum regarding clunking noises (coming from the front end), and most people seem to get them while corner.

My issue only seems to happen from a start. I'll come up to a light, come to a complete stop, and when the light turns green and I go to accelerate, my car clunks once, and then starts going.

The strange thing is it almost feels like when the car sits in the rain for a day or two, the rotors get rusty, and then I go to accelerate and intially it almost feels like the brake caliper needs to break free... it'll clunk once, and feel like it is detaching itself from the gunk, and then drive like normal...

Same thing that is happening now, except no rain/rusty rotor, and everytime I come to a complete stop and accelerate. But, doesn't do it constantly.... just from a dead stop.

Any thoughts?

Maybe a trans mounts or some other mount of sorts. Definitely, not a motor mount, I have already looked.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Check the nuts on the top of your struts to include the top mount bolt. You might have something loose up there.

I had a similar issue. Mine would only do it when the car would sit for a couple of days or overnight. I'd get in it and the first time the tires moved when I went to back up there was a noise like the brakes were breaking loose from being stuck or something. It drove completely normal after that.

Mine would only do it that first time it moved after sitting, never at a light or stop sign. I thought about digging into it. Then when I swapped out to the summer wheels the noise stopped. My guess is I might have had a bit of gravel lodged in one of the brakes that came loose when I swapped the wheels.

Could be one of your calipers is sticking. That could explain why its only happening after you stop.

Random follow-ups (in order of comments):

- I had my friend stand outside the car to hone in on the sound... passenger side front. We are both guessing it is some sort of mount, but all the visible mounts look good. Gonna get it up on a lift this week.

- I checked the nuts on the top of the front struts. All are tight. I wish this one was the case. It would have been nice and easy to correct.

- Caliper sticking is definitely a possibility though everytime it had happen to me in the past (on my 1G DSM), it really really stuck... i.e. made a crap load of noise, felt like running around with one "foot" asleep, and spewed a ton of brake dust/powderized shrapnel all over the wheel where the caliper was frozen. I wonder if they can freeze "partially clamped"... still checking on this one.

- I did have work done recently 300 whp/tq approx, on stock clutch... that was something I was wondering about too...
