what valve spring compressor?

Can someone who has changed their valve springs post up what valve spring compressor tool they used? I don't want to buy one and have it give me problems or not fit right. I'm talking about the type that you don't have to pull the head off to use also

Snap-On part#: YA9140A
Its actually labeled Blue Point, but Snap-On makes and sells it. Its $185, well worth the money after fighting other compressors designed for V8 style cylinder heads. This unit easily bolts down to the cam journals and runs down a bar so you can do one whole side without having to remount the tool.

Well, now that you know what kind to use if you don't pull the head--anything else will work if you do take the head off..

How do you keep the valves from falling into the motor when you pull the spring and retainers off?

Pressurize the cylinder with air via the spark plug hole. This pressurizes the combustion chamber and keeps the valves from falling in.

+1, and make sure the engine is at TDC to make sure none of the valves are open.

here's another universal one that reportedly works well on the 4G63. Looks similar to the Snap On

No valve's will be open regardless of it being at TDC because there will be no cams in there But its a good Idea to rotate the crank to TDC on each cyl you are removing the springs on. This way if you lose air for some reason the valves wont fall into the cylinder.
