My tachometer is going crazy! help please

hey everyone so i go to get my car detailed the other day and when i come to pick the car up the guy said that my tachometer wasn't working. this happened to me once last year but i parked the car for a few hours and it started working again. Now it won't work...it jumps around when i hit the brakes and the gas sparratically but most of the time it just sits at 0.

it cost me a 100 to have it diagnosed at mitsubishi and they said its the cluster itself that needs to be replaced. everything is working but the tach and my green light indicator for low beams.

someone help!

thanks

Pull the cluster and see if a trace is burned up or something.

my father and i pulled the cluster and everything looked good...i almost feel like its a loose sensor underneath the car because when i hit the brakes hard or give it extra gas the sensor starts working

What I would recommend is if you got an evo buddy in the area, sway clusters for a minute and see whats what.

if it was something loose at a sensor or something the check engine light would come on.

Check and make sure the tach gear is installed correctly. Its on the top of the transmission just under where the shifter cables are. If it's not it all the way the gear could be slipping in and out.

i think i found the problem! there was a brown wire sliced into my tach wire going into the ECU...it was loose from maybe the previous owner installing a tach gauge...i think it was hitting metal or something because i started the car up and the tach was working fine. i will try again tomorrow to see if it wasn't coincidence
